Good afternoon. I have an HP Pavilion dv6 2120er laptop, the specifications say that the wifi module supports 2.4 - 5 GHz, while I bought a Xiaomi mi route 3 router, which is just a dual-band. Please tell me in this question: a laptop sees both networks, but when connected to a 5 GHz frequency, it shows a speed test of 20 Mbps for receiving and 21.5 Mbps for transmitting, the same situation is at 2.4 GHz although the router is a meter from the laptop. And yet, when I connect my mobile to the 5 GHz network, it shows a speed of 98 Mbit / s. Provider speed 100 Mbps receive and transmit. I look forward to hearing. Thanks!

Good afternoon. I think that the problem is in the driver of the Wi-Fi module on the laptop, or in some settings. The topic of Wi-Fi 5 GHz is still not very popular, and I have not even met such questions and problems related to low speed at 5 GHz. As a rule, everything flies there. One would assume that the router cuts the speed so much. But, if the phone manages to squeeze out such a speed over Wi-Fi, then the router does its job well. The only thing that would still be interesting to check is the speed from a router on a laptop via a network cable.

I would first try updating the WiFi adapter driver. Download a new one for your model from the HP website. If it does not help, you can try the opposite, roll back the driver. Or replace from the list already installed in the system according to this instruction.

If this does not help, then on the laptop, opening the properties of the Wi-Fi adapter (in the device manager), on the tab, additionally selecting the item on the left (for 5 GHz) in which there is the word "Channel", you can try different values. There most likely the default is "Auto".

To be honest, I don’t know if this will help increase the speed at 5 GHz, but I think you can try. Well, in the settings of the router, you can play with the settings of the Wi-Fi network at a frequency of 5 GHz, but there are two but: the settings of the Xiaomi router in Chinese, and try to find these settings there and the speed on the phone is good.
