You may have already read my TP-Link Archer C5 V4 review, bought yourself this router and now you can't wait to set it up. Other reasons why you could have entered this page are not excluded. For example, there are some problems with the router, or you want to configure additional functions. In this article, I will show you the whole process of connecting and configuring TP-Link Archer C5 V4. This is like a supplement or replacement for the manual that came with the router. With one huge difference - feedback in the comments 🙂 Where you can always add an article, or ask a question.

TP-Link Archer C5 V4 is a little different from other routers from this company. I have to enter the setup process. This router has a new control panel installed, which is much easier and more pleasant to work with. For example, there is no longer a factory username and password (admin / admin), and the router prompts us to set a password during the first setup. And this is very convenient. The settings of the Internet connection (WAN) have also changed. But you probably won't notice this if you use the Quick Setup Wizard.

To configure the equipment, you first need to connect it. Therefore, we take our Archer C5 V4 out of the box and connect the power. If the power indicator does not light up, turn on the power using the "On / Off" button.

Next, connect the Internet to the WAN port of the router. I have to insert a network cable that comes from the ISP, or from the modem. We also need to connect the device from which we will perform the configuration to the router. A stationary computer or laptop is best suited for this business. If you have one, then connect it to the router using a network cable.

If you do not have a computer, or a network card does not / does not work on it, then you can connect from any device via Wi-Fi. Open the list of available Wi-Fi networks on your device and connect to the wireless network broadcasted by TP-Link Archer C5 V4. The factory network name (also known as SSID) and the wireless network password (PIN) are shown on the sticker on the bottom of the router.

Since we have a dual-band router, there will be two networks. The one in the 5 GHz band will be labeled "_5G". You can connect to any.

Your device should only be connected to this router. Other active connections must be disabled. Initially, the status of connection to Archer C5 V4 may be "Without Internet access". Pay no attention to it.

TP-Link Archer C5 V4 Quick Setup

To configure the router to connect to the Internet and set the parameters of the Wi-Fi network, we need to access the web interface.

This is very easy to do. We launch any browser and go to the addresshttp://tplinkwifi.net (more in the article: tplinkwifi.net - entering the router settings). Or at the address http://192.168.0.1 (detailed instructions: 192.168.0.1 - login to the router, or modem.admin and admin).

If the router has already been configured, then it will ask you to enter the password that was set.

You can always reset the router with the button Reset... You need to press on it with a sharp object and hold it until all the indicators light up and go out.

If it has not been configured yet, then a window will appear in which you need to come up with and specify a password. This password will later be used for authorization in the TP-Link Archer C5 V4 settings. Try not to forget him.

The quick setup wizard will appear immediately. With which you can quickly set all the necessary parameters. And you don't have to do it in different sections of the control panel.

Of course, the router will first ask us to set the most important settings - the Internet connection.

Select the type of internet connection your ISP uses. If you don't know which one - check with the support of your Internet provider. Most often this is Dynamic IP, or PPPoE. L2TP and PPTP are also commonly used.

Since I have a Dynamic IP, there is no need to set additional parameters. If you have PPPoE, then you need to provide a username and password. And if L2TP or PPTP, then also the server address. These parameters are provided by the Internet provider. Therefore, all questions are for him.

You can enable "VLAN ID" and set the number. I don't really understand what this is for. Most likely to watch IPTV. I didn't include. This can be done later if needed.

In the next step, you can configure the Wi-Fi network, which will be distributed by TP-Link Archer C5 V4. You need to change the Wi-Fi network name and password. For each range. If necessary, you can turn off the network in a certain range. It is enough to uncheck the box next to "Enable wireless broadcasting". If, for example, you do not plan to connect your devices to a 5 GHz network yet. Or you don't have devices that support this network. Then you can turn it on in the settings.

If you were connected via Wi-Fi, then connect to the new network. Select one of the options in the next window and click Next.

We save the parameters.

You can do an internet connection test. And if the router is connected to the Internet (the result is "Success!" "Success!"), Then click on the "Finish" button. If there is no Internet connection, then use the "Back" button to return to the choice of the connection type and check all the parameters. Check the settings with your provider.

The network map will open.

The setup is complete. You can change other parameters of the router.

In the "Advanced settings" section, on the "Network" - "Internet" tab, you can change the parameters of the Internet connection. Edit or delete an already created rule, or create a new one. But if the Internet works through a router, then it's better not to change anything.

More advanced settings can also be found there. For example, change the MTU, or clone the MAC address (if required by the provider).

The section "Wireless" contains the settings for the Wi-Fi network. The control panel itself is very simple and in Russian. I don't think it makes much sense to review all the settings.

Since TP-Link Archer C5 V4 has a USB port, you may need this instruction: access to a USB disk (flash drive) through a TP-Link router over the network. If you want to connect a USB flash drive or external hard drive to your router. Or configure DLNA through a TP-Link router.
