Wi-Fi disappears on a Dell laptop (Windows 10) via a Mercusys router

Hello! Recently, a router broke down, bought a new one, set up wi-fi (the name and other parameters remained the same as on the old one), after which the following problem appeared: the disconnection on the laptop disappears, sometimes an exclamation mark appears near the wi-fi icon, sometimes not. Moreover, this occurs in periods, i.e. half an hour is buggy - half an hour everything is fine, and so on in a circle.

Launched the troubleshooter - most often the message "dns server not responding" appears, sometimes "the connection of the router's or cable modem's access point to the Internet is broken."

Most often, the problem appears when I start to load the network more (I turn on live video broadcasting, for example). Sometimes I disappear from the list of devices connected to the router (if there is an exclamation mark), but most often I write that I have a connection. On other devices, this problem is not even close.

If anything, Dell Inspiron laptop, OS - Windows 10, router - Mercusys.

Did the following:

  1. rebooted the router and laptop
  2. changed dns settings on laptop (installed 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4)
  3. several times deleted the network from memory and reconnected
  4. updated all drivers
  5. tested hardware and software downloaded by SupportAssist from the official Dell website - everything is clean

Nothing helps! Could there be a problem with the built-in wi-fi adapter? And what other solutions are there?

Thanks!

Answer

Hello. Thanks for a detailed description of the problem.

The first thing I recommend to do (besides what you have already done): reset the network settings of Windows 10 and apply the tips from this article: Wi-Fi is turned off in Windows 10. The Wi-Fi connection on the laptop falls off.

I don't think the problem is with the laptop. After all, Wi-Fi began to disappear immediately after replacing the router. But on the other hand, why the rest of the devices work fine.

Usually, when the Internet disappears at times of increased network load, the problem is in the router. Since he cannot cope with this load. But the Internet at such moments stops working on all devices. As a rule, before restarting the router.

A few questions:

  • What is your Mercusys router model?
  • Internet connection does not turn off when laptop is connected to other networks?
  • What devices have you tested on yet? Have you tried to load the network from other devices?

Try to follow what I wrote above. If it does not help, then give an answer to these three questions and we will think further.
