No router sees the cable of the WAN provider (works on the PC)

Hello! We have purchased a TP-LINK TL-WR841N router. Everything worked for a week. This morning, the Internet disappeared on the main computer, which is connected to the router via a LAN cable, and on other devices when connected to Wi-Fi, there is also no Internet.

All computers have a yellow internet triangle on. The WAN lamp on the router is off. I read on your forum that the WAN port could burn out, tried to change the firmware and reconfigure the LAN port to the WAN - nothing helped. I bought a new router Asus RT-N12 again does not find WAN. The lamp is off. I called the provider with the Internet settings, everything is fine. When you connect a network cable directly to your computer, the Internet works. Checked all the latest drivers installed. I am hope for your help.

Answer

Hello. As I understand it, you read the article the router does not see the Internet cable. The WAN port is not working. I think the problem is on the side of the provider. Something in their equipment, or in the cable itself. Not in the WAN ports on your routers. Now I will explain why I think so.

Even when the Internet does not work, or is not configured on the router, when the cable is connected to the WAN port of the TP-LINK router, or ASUS, the Internet indicator (WAN) will be on. It can light up orange on TP-LINK (this indicates that the cable is connected but the Internet does not work), or it may just light up but not blink on ASUS. You can check. Take a network cable (which is included with the router), connect one end to the network card of your computer, and the other to the WAN port of the router. And you will see that the port itself is working (by the indicator on the router). Well, it cannot be that there are problems with the WAN port on two routers.

I have not forgotten that when the cable from the provider is connected directly to the computer, the Internet works. I have already seen several cases when the Internet on a PC works without problems, and the router simply does not see the Internet cable. Does not respond to its connection.

If the provider does not see any problems in himself and cannot help remotely, then let him send specialists. It may be necessary to re-crimp the network cable from your side, or from the equipment side. Maybe something with the equipment that is installed in the house. Let them figure it out.

I could of course be wrong. But I think that the problem is not in the settings or in the router.
