I don't know how relevant the issue of setting up parental controls on a router is, but I decided to prepare a small instruction for Asus routers. Let's consider setting up parental controls on the Asus RT-N18U router. If you have a different model, then it's okay, all the settings are the same there. It won't be difficult to figure it out.

First, let's find out what parental control is, why you need it, and what specific settings are on Asus devices. This feature allows you to restrict internet access for specific devices. Time limit. Different devices are connected to your router: computers, phones, tablets, etc., among them there are also most likely your children's devices. So, you can set up parental control so that the Internet on your children's devices is only at a certain time. For example, only during the day, and after ten in the evening the Internet stopped working on certain devices.

A useful feature for those who want to control the time that children spend on the Internet. Let the kids forgive me 🙂

Setting up parental controls on an Asus router

Open your router settings at 192.168.1.1. You can see detailed instructions here. In the settings go to the tab Parental control... Turn it on with the switch if it is off, and if you have a warning that the time zone differs from the regional settings, then click on this inscription and set the correct time zone. Save your settings.

Return to the Parental Controls tab. The incorrect time zone message should be gone by now.

We need to add the device for which we want to configure control. It is enough to select the desired device from the list if it is connected to the router, or has been connected before. There you can also register the MAC address of the desired device manually.

The client we added will appear in the list. Click Apply... You can delete it, or set the time. Click on the "Edit" button to specify the time of Internet access.

A table with the time and days of the week will appear. You just need to set aside the time at which you want to allow access to the Internet. You can set the time settings so that the Internet on the device works, for example, only during the day.

Click Ok... The parental controls will start working. On the device that you added to the list, Wi-Fi will be connected, but the Internet will work according to the schedule that we set. You can add new devices and set up a schedule for them, or remove devices from the list.

An important point. If you use the standard admin password to enter the settings of the router, then I advise you to read it according to this instruction (on the Administration tab - System). Otherwise, the children will go into the settings and block you, the children are now like that 🙂

In this way, you can punish not only children, but also a disobedient wife / husband, or relatives who do not obey you 🙂 I think you will find a use.
