Why doesn't DLNA work on LG TV from TP-Link router (external hard drive)?

Good afternoon. Such a problem. I'm trying to connect a hard drive to a router (TP-link n750) so that its contents are available on a computer and TV (LG OLED C9), as I understand it, you need to create a DLNA server for this? I have already re-read all your articles, but it doesn’t come out to “see” the hard drive. I attach files with router settings. On the TV (picture 3), it seems like the router is visible, but clicking on it opens the MediaServerRoot folder, which is empty. If you use LG Smart Share, then “heavy” 4k movies “freeze” every few seconds.

I would be very grateful for your help in solving this problem.

Thank you very much in advance!

Answer

Good afternoon. If, when starting a DLNA server through the Smart Share program, heavy 4k movies freeze, playback stops, then this is due to the low connection speed. And most likely the same problem will occur when watching DLNA movies from an external hard drive that is connected to the router. Wireless (and wired, LAN) speeds are usually not enough for watching heavy DLNA movies. The load on the router sags the speed.

If I'm not mistaken, the DLNA server on the TP-Link router turns on automatically after connecting the USB drive. I wrote about the setup in the instructions Media server (DLNA) on the ASUS Wi-Fi router and TP-LINK. You have it turned on. PC and TV see DLNA server. But it's empty. No files. Most likely you need to click on the "Scan All" button. For the router to scan all media files on the disk. There you can also check the box and select the time for automatic scanning. Or create a folder manually by clicking on the "Add share folder" button.

If everything works, but the movies will be played with a delay, then I recommend connecting an external hard drive directly to the TV. Here are the instructions: how to connect a USB flash drive to a TV and watch movies, videos, photos, listen to music.
