After 12 minutes, the connection between TP-Link routers in WDS mode is cut off and is restored

First of all, many thanks to the author for the informative article. Based on the addition to the article, two TP-Link successfully operate in WDS mode (Archer c2 -> source, Archer c20 -> receiver). As an addition, I want to note that after turning off the DHCP server, the receiver can only enter the router via a wired connection from the source router.

The question is this: two routers work successfully in bridge mode. From the receiver's router through a twisted pair cable, the home network stretches to the TV. The TV quite successfully sees all the folders on the PC and plays video from there. After about 12 minutes, the TV reports that it no longer sees the server (the PC server is running stably at this time). Suspecting that the problem could be in the DHCP lease time increased from the recommended 120 minutes to 1200 minutes - after a reboot, it did not help. Where to look for the problem, can you tell me? Thanks!

Answer

You need to figure it out. I would start by resetting and updating the TP-Link Archer c20 firmware (if there is a newer version). Then I would try to set everything up again. On the very problem in the work of WDS, I have several questions (important, unclear points) that you can clarify in the comments below.

  1. TP-Link Archer c20, which receives the Internet from Archer c2 in bridge mode, is in the zone of a stable signal of the main Wi-Fi network?
  2. Have you set static Wi-Fi channels on both routers?
  3. The only problem is that the TV stops seeing the PC server, or does the Internet stop working on all devices connected to TP-Link Archer c20?
  4. After rebooting both routers, is the connection restored? Or it recovers automatically.
  5. And the most important thing. If you do not start video playback on the TV from your computer, routers will not lose their WDS connection? It just seems to me that this may be due to the load. Although, your routers are not weak, this should not be.

It is important to understand if this problem is related to the DLNA server on the computer and video playback on the TV.

Here you need to look where and under what conditions the connection between routers is lost in order to find the problem device, the cause, and eliminate it.
