In this article, I will show you how to set maximum performance settings for a Wi-Fi adapter, and how to prevent the wireless adapter from being turned off to save energy. In some articles I have already written about this, but I decided to make a separate instruction so that, if necessary, just give a link to it.

Why is all this needed? Everything is very simple. To save energy, Windows can turn off the Wi-Fi module and manage its power supply. And as practice shows, the Wi-Fi module does not always like it. For example, after exiting sleep mode, the connection to the Wi-Fi network is not restored and you have to restart the laptop. Or the Wi-Fi connection simply disappears. This could all be due to a power problem in the wireless adapter.

Therefore, I recommend enabling maximum performance in the power settings, or separately setting the power saving level for the wireless adapter. Also prohibit its disabling through the settings in the device manager. This is not at all difficult to do.

Open power settings.

You can simply activate the High Performance plan.

Or, opposite the required plan (which you have chosen), click on "Configure power plan" and in a new window on "Change advanced power settings".

And for the wireless adapter, set the power to maximum performance.

Apply the settings and restart the laptop. If you still have problems with Wi-Fi, then try another method.

Configuring Wi-Fi adapter power via device manager

The fastest way to launch Device Manager is to press the Win + R key combination, enter (copy) the commandmmc devmgmt.msc and click Ok. In Windows 10, you can find and run through the search.

Next, open the "Network adapters" tab, right-click on the adapter whose name contains Wi-Fi, Wireless, WLAN, 802.11 and select "Properties".

Go to the "Power Management" tab, uncheck the "Allow this device to turn off ..." checkbox and click "Ok".

Everything is ready, now our wireless module will always be on. And this should have a positive effect on his work.
