TP-Link has introduced a new router. Model TL-WR945N. And this is really something new! Already tired of all these routers that are now on the market. Almost everything is the same. Only the color of the plastic, the shape and some technical characteristics change. And the new model from TP-Link is like a breath of fresh air. But let's talk about everything in order. First, we will consider the technical characteristics of the new model, and then we will move on to the most interesting - to the design, materials, and the impression of the new device.
Wireless network speed up to 450Mbps. It's in the 2.4 GHz band. This is enough for watching HD videos, playing online games, or downloading files. The speed of WAN and LAN ports is 10/100 Mbps. Three 5dBi antennas provide good Wi-Fi coverage. The router runs on a modern processor from Qualcomm. There is support for 3 x 3 MIMO technology. I think that when you connect all your devices at the same time, there will be no problems with stability. The router is no different, so there is no support for the new 802.11ac standard and no USB ports.
The main feature of TP-Link TL-WR945N is a new design and a metal case. The router looks very cool!
The body of the router is made of aluminum alloy. It not only looks good and feels very pleasant in the hands, but also cools perfectly. There are no ventilation holes on the router's case. This means that dust will not get inside the device. At the same time, TL-WR945N distributes heat well and removes it. After all, metal conducts heat much better than plastic.
TP-Link also abandoned the indicators we are used to. Now they are replaced by one beautiful indicator on the front edge. It can change color depending on the state of the device. It looks great on a black glossy background.

Let's start as usual - with the packaging. She's also new.
Everything is packed very well. Even the antennas are wrapped in foil, which, by the way, is not very easy to remove. Standard equipment: router, power adapter, network cable, papers and instructions.
We take out the TP-Link TL-WR945N from the box, and the first thing that is impressive is its weight (you expect it to be lighter) and a pleasant, cold, metal body.
The metal itself is a little rough. Not glossy.
The body is almost monolithic. It looks like a container made of aluminum alloy, which was closed in front with an insert of black glossy plastic, and covered with a plastic panel with buttons and connectors at the back.
There is only one indicator on the front side, which can be seen only after turning on the router. It glows red or blue. Looks very nice.
True, the glossy panel is very scratched and collects fingerprints. Careful with her.
The back face is all in buttons and connectors. There are 4 LAN, 1 WAN port (it is separate and highlighted in a different color, which is very good). The will of each port has an activity indicator.
There is an ON / OFF button, a button to turn off and turn on the Wi-Fi module and activate WPS, and a button to reset the settings. Well, the power connector. By the way, the plug from the power supply fits very tightly into the connector. Made with high quality.
As for the bottom of the router, here you can feel the bold decision of the designers from TP-Link. There's nothing. No feet, no wall mounting holes. For some reason, I immediately thought, but how will he stand on the table. But as it turned out, it is quite sure. Also beautiful 🙂
Since there is no longer a sticker with factory information on the bottom of the router (however, the address and factory username / password are indicated on the case itself in small print), an information card is included with the router. Where is the model, hardware version, serial number, MAC address, etc. Be sure to keep this card.

Everything is simple and straightforward. But there is no Russian or Ukrainian language in this firmware. We are waiting for updates.
I really liked TP-Link TL-WR945N. Really something new and not boring. If you have already bought this router, or are going to buy, then prepare the most prominent place for its installation. You can put on your desktop and enjoy. The case when you really want to look at the router. Yes, it is normal in terms of technical characteristics. But not expensive either. But how beautiful and high quality.
How he is at work is still difficult to say. You need to use, check, test. I connected everything, went into the settings, configured the connection, and did not find any problems. TP-Link is not the first year on the market, so there will be no problems with hardware. Most likely, new models will appear in the near future in this or a similar case with support for 802.11ac and USB.
I think it makes no sense to say that the TL-WR945N looks better than 99% of all routers currently on sale. And TP-Link definitely needs to move in this direction and release new models of this type.
