In this article, we will be configuring the very popular D-link DIR-615 router. I will write an article using the D-link DIR-615 / A as an example. And if you have a different model, then it's okay, almost everything is the same there. This manual is suitable for many D-link routers. I will try to write about everything in detail and in an understandable language. I will not talk much about the router itself, you can read my review and other useful information about the DIR-615 / A at the link above. I will just say that this router is well suited for a home or small office. It will easily provide stable Internet access for your computers, phones, tablets (via Wi-Fi) and other devices.

As for setting up D-link DIR-615, everything is very simple there. And if your provider uses the Dynamic IP connection technology, then you just need to connect a router, and the Internet will already work. You only need to set a password for the Wi-Fi network and change the network name, if necessary. The only thing I don't like is that the settings in D-link change (in appearance) in almost every version. I have to enter the router control panel. And therefore, the settings of your router may differ from those that you will see in this article. But it might fix a firmware update.

We will configure D-link DIR-615 according to the following scheme:

  • Connection and entrance to the control panel on D-link DIR-615
  • Setting up the Internet on D-link DIR-615 (connecting to the provider)
  • Setting up a Wi-Fi network and changing the password

And now, about everything in more detail.

Connect D-link DIR-615 and go to settings

Connect the power to the router and turn it on. If the indicators on the front panel of the router do not light up, then check if the power is turned on with the button on the rear panel. If you will be configuring the router by cable, then take the network cable that comes with the kit, connect the router to your computer. Connect one end of the cable to black LAN connector (in 1 of 4), and connect the other end to the network card of your computer (laptop). Connect the cable from the Internet provider to yellow WAN connector.

If you don't have a computer with a network card, or don't have a cable, then you can configure everything via Wi-Fi. You can even use your phone or tablet.

Next, we need to go to the router settings. But, before that, I advise you to do a factory reset. This is necessary in order to delete all the old settings that may have already been set. And whatever they interfere with us, we will simply return the router to the factory state.

Resetting settings on D-link DIR-615

Everything is very simple to do. With something sharp, you need to press the button recessed into the body RESET and hold it for ten seconds. Then release, and wait for the router to reboot.

Now you can go to the settings. You can read how to do this in a detailed article. Or, see below.

Open any browser and go to it at 192.168.0.1... A window will appear asking for a username and password. By default, it is admin and admin... You will be taken to the settings of your D-link.

Perhaps your settings will be in English. But you can change the language to Russian, or Ukrainian.

If a window appears asking you to change the factory password to enter the settings, then come up with and specify a password twice. Do not forget it, it will be used to enter the settings of the router.

I advise you to update your router's firmware right away, before setting up. How to do this, I wrote in detail in this article. If you do not want to do this, or it is too difficult for you, then you can continue the configuration without updating the software.

That's it, we went to the control panel, you can start configuring the router.

Setting up the Internet on D-link DIR-615

The first thing you need to do is find out what connection technology your provider uses... Dynamic IP, static, PPPoE (uses Dom.ru and other providers), L2TP (for example, uses Beeline provider). I already wrote how to find out the connection technology. You can just call the provider's support and ask, or look at the official website.

If you have a connection using the popular Dynamic IP technology, then the router should distribute the Internet immediately after connecting a cable from the provider to it and you just need to configure the Wi-Fi network (see below in the article). If you do not have a Dynamic IP, then you need to configure it.

Go to the tab StartClick'n'Connect... Check if the Ethernet cable is connected and press the button Further.

Select your connection from the list. If, for example, you have PPPoE and your provider also provides an IP address, then select PPPoE + Static IP. If there is no IP, then simply select PPPoE + Dynamic IP. Or just the same with L2TP.

Next, specify the IP parameters that the provider provides and if it provides them (you may not have this window). Click Further.

If the "Provider Local Resource Addresses" window appears, and you do not want to add addresses, or do not know what it is, then just click Further... A window will appear in which you need to specify the connection name, login and password. This information is also provided by the provider. You can click on the Details button to open more advanced settings (MTU and others).

Next, there will be a check of the Internet connection and the ability to enable the Yandex.DNS filter. This is optional. In any case, you can change these settings later. This I showed an example of setting up a PPPoE connection on a D-link DIR-615. Your settings may differ from those that I have.

If after setting up the Internet through the router does not work, the connection status is "without access to the Internet", or the sites simply do not open, then check the settings from the provider. Perhaps you have chosen the wrong connection type, or you have incorrectly set some parameter.

As you can see, with PPPoE, L2TP, PPTP and Dynamic IP, there are much more problems than with Static IP technology.

One important point: if you had a high-speed connection on your computer that you used to connect to the Internet, now you don't need it. This connection will be established by our D-link router and simply distribute the Internet via cable and Wi-Fi.

You can always change the provider settings through the same Click'n'Connect quick setup wizard, or on the tab NetWANby selecting and editing the desired connection.

It is advisable to save the settings:

If the Internet is already working through the router, then you can start setting up the Wi-Fi network.

Wi-Fi setup and password change on D-link DIR-615

All we need to do is change the name of the Wi-Fi network and set a new password to protect our Wi-Fi.

Go to the tabWi-Fi - basic settings... Here we will change the name of our Wi-Fi. In field SSID enter the name of your network. Click the button Apply.

Then go to the tabWi-Fi - Security Settings, and in the field "PSK encryption key" specify the password that will be used to connect to Wi-Fi. Password must be at least 8 characters. Write down your password right away so you don't forget it.

Save your settings. System - Save... If you do not configure anything else (this may be the end of the D-link DIR-615 configuration), then restart the router. System (menu item at the top, near the logo) - Reboot.

Everything, the wireless network is configured. You can still see a more detailed article on setting up Wi-Fi.

You can also change the administrator password that is used to access the settings of the router. If you haven't changed it, or changed it, but have already forgotten, then you can do this on the tab System - Administrator password.

Enter the new password twice and click Apply... Remember to save your settings.

Be sure to write down this password somewhere. If you forget it, you will not be able to enter the control panel, and you will have to do a factory reset.

Afterword

Fuh, I'm tired :) I won't write anything else. If you have any questions about the article, ask in the comments. Hope you were able to set up your router.
