Hello!

There is a Wireless N router, speed up to 300 Mbps TL-WR841N, HP 15-r062sr laptop with Windows 8.1 preinstalled and later updated to windows 10. The problem is that both during windows 8.1 and windows 10 there is a weak signal wi- fi. After upgrading to windows 10, the nightmare began. Either wi-fi appears, then it appears very weakly. Especially if you move 5 meters or more away from the router.

First of all, we installed an external wi-fi adapter TP-link, then the signal increased at full power. Internet speed at least 10-15 Mbit / sec. But this is a temporary phenomenon and we decided to change the native Ralink RT3290 wi-fi adapter to Qualcomm Atheros RA9584 and installed the latest driver for it for windows 10. As a result, the problem remained. Now the question is about replacing the wi-fi antenna. Is it worth it? What to do?

Answer

Hello! Yes, it is possible that the problem is with the Wi-Fi antenna of your HP laptop. It may cause poor Wi-Fi network reception on the laptop. Especially away from the router. What exactly could have happened to the antenna, I cannot answer. You need to disassemble the laptop and look. Maybe the cable (loop) from the wireless module to the antenna is broken. Or the antenna itself is not installed correctly.

Moreover, the network is good with an external receiver from TP-Link. Other devices probably work fine with this router as well. Well, I have never seen that due to some settings in Windows, or even because of the driver, there was a poor reception of the Wi-Fi network.
