I got a Tp-link TL-WR740N router, wrote a setup manual, and decided to prepare an instruction for its firmware. Consider updating the software on two routers: Tp-link TL-WR740N, and Tp-link TL-WR741ND. Since these models are almost the same, the firmware process itself is no different there. We already have general instructions on how to update software on Tp-Link routers on our website. But since these are very popular models, I decided to consider everything in detail using their example.
Now I will show you how to select and download the firmware from the Tp-Link website, and how to upload it to the router. Of course, you need to update the router's firmware. Improvements, more stable performance, and all that. That Tp-link TL-WR741ND is just sometimes missing. I wrote about it here. But, these routers have become so popular for a reason. They are fully consistent with their price, and do an excellent job of many tasks.
Search and download firmware for Tp-link TL-WR740N and TL-WR741ND
Everything is very simple here. Follow the link http://www.tp-link.ua/ru/download-center.html, and select the model of your router from the list. I choseTL-WR740N, since I have this particular model.
Next, we need to find out the hardware version of our router. To do this, just look at the sticker on the bottom of your router. The version will be listed there.
It is very important that the firmware you download is for your router model and for your hardware version. Otherwise, the router may fail.
I have Ver: 5.1. This means that on the site I need to select V5, and go to the tab Firmware.
Then we scroll the page a little, and we see a list of firmware. It lists the language, version, release date, and descriptions of new features. If you do not know what firmware is installed on your router, then you can go to its settings. The version will be listed directly on the home page. If there is a newer version on the site, then click on the link to download it. Save the file to your computer.
Open the downloaded archive, and extract the firmware file from it.

We update the software of the Tp-link TL-WR740N router
It is recommended to flash the router only when connected via a network cable. Wi-Fi must be disabled at the time of the firmware.
Connect to your Tp-Link via a network cable.
After connecting, we need to go to the settings. Open your browser and go to 192.168.0.1, or http://tplinkwifi.net... A login and password request will appear. If you haven't changed them, then by default admin and admin... If it doesn't work, then see this detailed instruction.
Important! Do not turn off the power of the router during the firmware. Better yet, do not touch anything at all. If something goes wrong during the upgrade process, the router may turn into a brick.
In the settings go to the tab System Tools (System Tools) - Updating the firmware (Firmware Upgrade). Click the button select a file, select the firmware file on your computer, and click the button Refresh.
A message will appear, click Ok, and the update process starts.
Next, the router will reboot, and the login page for the control panel will open. That's all.
