Configuring TP-Link TL-WR741ND. Connection, Wi-Fi setup

Tp-link TL-WR741ND is one of the most popular budget routers, which has been on the market for a very long time and has been selling well. It differs from TL-WR740N only with a removable antenna, and, according to the idea, with other hardware. A good popular router that is perfect for a small home, and for connecting multiple devices. It is Tp-link TL-WR741ND that we will configure in this detailed instruction.

I will tell and show you how to connect a Tp-link TL-WR741ND router, how to enter the settings, connect it to the Internet, set up a Wi-Fi network and set a password. It doesn't matter if you have a new router, or it has already been configured before, everything will work out.

We will adjust according to the scheme

• Let's connect Tp-link TL-WR741ND to the Internet, and connect the computer from which we will configure to it.
• Let's go to the router settings.
• Let's set up an Internet connection (WAN).
• Let's put a password on Wi-Fi and configure a wireless network.
• Let's set up protection for access to the router settings.

In setting up any router, the main thing is to configure the Internet. So that the router can connect to the provider and receive the Internet from it. If our TL-WR741ND cannot connect to the Internet, then it will not be able to distribute it to your devices. And it will be "No Internet Access" (Limited). Connect the power adapter to the router. Then plug the cable from your ISP or ADSL modem into the blue WAN connector. If you configure the router from a computer, you can connect to it using the network cable that is included in the kit. It looks like this:

If everything is connected correctly, then this is half the battle. In some cases (when the provider uses a Dynamic IP connection), the Internet will immediately work through the router. If this is the case for you, then you can immediately go into the settings and proceed to the Wi-Fi setup.

You can connect to Wi-Fi and configure your router wirelessly, even from your phone or tablet. Immediately after turning on the router, a Wi-Fi network will appear. It should not be password protected, just connect to it. If the network is still protected, then the standard password (PIN) is indicated on the bottom of the router on a sticker. There are several hardware versions of the router, and in the new ones the network is already buried by default with a password.

How to enter the TL-WR741ND settings?

After connecting, open any browser on the computer (from which we will configure). Type the address in the address barhttp://tplinkwifi.net, 192.168.1.1, or 192.168.0.1 and go over it. The exact address is indicated on the bottom of the router on a sticker. Where the default username and password are indicated, which must be specified to get into the settings. Standard: admin and admin.

Setting up an internet connection

If the Internet through the router is already working for you, then skip this step and proceed to setting up the wireless network.

Before setting up, you should definitely find out what type of connection your Internet provider uses. As well as the parameters necessary for connection (username, password). How to find out this information I wrote here. If the Internet does not work immediately after connecting, then most likely it is PPPoE, L2TP, PPTP, or Static IP.

In the control panel go to the tabNetwork (Net) - WAN... On the menuWAN Connection Type (WAN Connection Type) from the list, select your connection type.

If you have a Dynamic IP, then you can immediately save the settings, and the Internet through the router should work. And if PPPoE, etc., then you need to set the necessary parameters. Typically, this is a username and password. There may also be an IP address. And save the settings by clicking on the button Save (Save).

The router must connect to the ISP. Proceed to the next settings only when the Internet via Tp-link TL-WR741ND is already working.

Setting up Wi-Fi on Tp-link TL-WR741ND and setting a password

To configure the wireless network, go to the tabWireless (Wireless mode). There we need to change the name of the Wi-Fi network (Wireless Network Name), indicate our region, and save the settings by clicking on the button Save.

Go to the tab immediatelyWireless Security (Wireless Security). Here we will change or set the password for our Wi-Fi network.

Choose an item WPA / WPA2 - Personal (Recommended)... We expose Version and Encryption as I have in the screenshot below, and in the fieldWireless password (Wireless network password) specify the password that will protect your network. Minimum 8 characters.

We save the settings and reboot the router. If you have already connected some devices via Wi-Fi, then they will need to be reconnected. After all, we have changed the network name and password. And try not to forget the password you set. If you forget, this article will come in handy.

Changing the password to enter the settings

So that everyone who connects to your Tp-link TL-WR741ND could not enter its settings, we need to change the default admin password. To do this, open the tab in the settings System Tools (System Tools) - Password (Password).

Enter your old username and old password (if you haven't changed them yet, then admin). And set new parameters. Click the button Save.
