One of the most popular errors that you can encounter on an Android smartphone or tablet is "Authentication Failed", or "Saved, WPA / WPA2 Security". These errors appear when you try to connect your phone or tablet to a Wi-Fi network.

Now we will try to figure out what these errors are, why they appear when connecting to Wi-Fi, and of course we will try to get rid of them. I took an Android tablet here, now I will try to show everything in detail with an example and tell about some solutions.

If you have any other problem / error when connecting your phone to Wi-Fi, then see this article: Phone won't connect to Wi-Fi. Internet does not work. Why and what to do?

What does authentication error mean on Android?

We take our tablet or phone and try to connect to Wi-Fi. We enter the password, and we see the status "Authentication ..."

Then we see: "Authentication error".

And the error "Saved", or "Saved, WPA / WPA2 security."

If you went to this page, then I think you are all familiar with this. At the same time, the phone, or the same tablet, does not connect to Wi-Fi, but everything repeats in a circle until we turn off Wi-Fi or delete the network.

These errors appear due to the fact that we entered the wrong password for the Wi-Fi network, or because of incorrect security settings on the router. But most often, because of the wrong password.

How to fix an authentication error, or "Saved, WPA / WPA2 security"

Let's deal with the solutions. Let's start as usual, with the simplest ones.

1Check the password. Since an authentication error most often appears due to an incorrectly specified password, you need to check it first. On your phone or tablet, tap on the Wi-Fi network that you can't connect to and delete it.

Now by clicking on our network, the password request will appear again. Re-enter the password, make sure to enter everything correctly. If you see an authentication error again, then delete the network, look at the password in the router settings, or on the computer, and try to connect again.

How to remember a forgotten Wi-Fi key, I wrote in the article: how to find out your Wi-Fi password, or what to do if you forgot your password.

Your best bet is to look at the password in your router settings. In the article I wrote how to do this. And don't forget that the password is case sensitive. That is, there is a difference between large and small.

2Change the security settings of the Wi-Fi network. If you are already sure that you are specifying the correct key, then you need to experiment with the wireless settings on our router. Especially with security settings.

First, check if your authentication method is WPA2 - Personal, WPA encryption - "AES". Try on these settings. If it doesn't help, set other parameters.

Do not forget to save the settings after each change, and reboot the router. And on Android, delete the Wi-Fi network and try to connect again.

I showed it using the ASUS router as an example. If you do not know how to change the wireless network settings on your router, then write in the comments, I will try to suggest.

3Change the password of the Wi-Fi network. Try changing your password to something else. I advise you to try to put a key of 8 characters, and only of numbers. In some cases, this helps.

4Change channel, region, channel width, and operating mode of the wireless network. If the above solutions do not help, then you can try experimenting with the Wi-Fi network settings. All of them are located in the control panel of the router, on the tab with the wireless network settings.

You can, for example, try to put some kind of static channel instead of "Auto", change the channel width, specify a different operating mode.

Do not forget to save the settings, restart the router, and delete the network on the mobile device (I wrote above how to do this).

5Restart your Android smartphone or tablet. You can also try to enable or disable airplane mode. I saw some more tips where it is recommended to turn on the modem (access point) mode, then turn it off. By setting the AP and Pairing settings to IPv4 and IPv6.

As a result, our phone should connect to Wi-Fi.

Hope my advice helped to solve the problem with connecting to the wireless network, and the authentication error. If you know about any other solutions, you can share them in the comments. Well, ask your questions, I will definitely answer, and I will try to help!
