Hello! We bought and installed a ZyXEL Keenetic Extra router, which operates in the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. Can buying a wi-fi adapter solve this problem or is it that the laptop is "clogged"? Thanks in advance.

Answer

Hello. Most likely, everything is very simple. The Wi-Fi adapter that is built into your Dell laptop simply doesn't support 5GHz networks. I can't say for sure, since you did not write the model, but most likely it is. I wrote about this in the article why a laptop, smartphone, or tablet does not see a 5 GHz Wi-Fi network. Yes, buying an external USB Wi-Fi adapter will fix the problem. Only when choosing an adapter, make sure that the adapter supports 5GHz networks.

Regarding the fact that the Internet on a laptop slows down, etc. There can be a lot of reasons here. Perhaps you have strong interference at a frequency of 2.4 GHz in your house, that is the unstable work of Wi-Fi, or perhaps, as you noticed, something in the laptop. How does a laptop work when connected to other Wi-Fi networks, or at least when connected to a router via cable?
