Tenda routers are popular primarily because of their price. This manufacturer has several budget models that are perfect for home use and for not very demanding users. I recently purchased one such model, this is the Tenda N301 router, which we will configure in this manual.

A good router for your money, which, I think, will do its job. All that is needed is to configure it correctly, which we will now do. Let's take a closer look at the process of connecting Tenda N301, entering the control panel, setting up an Internet connection, and setting up a Wi-Fi network. That is, all the basic settings that are required for the router to work.

Tenda N301: connecting and entering settings

First, we need to install and connect the router. It all depends on which device you will configure it from. If from a laptop or a stationary computer, then at the time of setup I advise you to connect to the router via the network cable that you will find in the kit. We also connect power to the router.

We connect the Internet (cable from the provider) to the WAN port.

You can connect to the router and Wi-Fi network. By default, the router distributes a Wi-Fi network with a factory name. Network without a password (we will set it during the setup process). And if you are asked for a password, then try "12345678". My network looks like this:

You can even connect to this network from a phone or tablet and configure the router.

The main thing is that your device is connected to Tenda N301.

Please note that immediately after connecting to the router, Internet access may not be available. This is because we have not yet configured the router to connect to the provider. This is normal. We do not need an internet connection to enter the router settings. You don't need to run any connections on your computer!

To go to the Tenda N301 settings, launch any browser, and go to 192.168.0.1.

An authorization page will appear, where you need to specify a password to access the settings of the router. Factory password: admin.

The address for entering the control panel, factory password, MAC address are indicated on the sticker on the bottom of the router.

Specify the password and click Ok.

If you can't go to the settings, then first of all check if your computer is set to automatically obtain an IP address. Read more in the article: https://help-wifi.com/oshibki-i-polomki/chto-delat-esli-ne-zaxodit-v-nastrojki-routera-na-192-168-0-1-ili-192- 168-1-1 /

You will see a page with the most important settings. Where you need to specify the type of Internet connection, set the necessary parameters, and change the WiFi network password. All settings can be set on this page if it is more convenient for you. I advise you to click on the "Basic settings" link, and open the advanced parameters of the Tenda N301 router, where we will configure everything.

Setting up an Internet connection (WAN)

Check if you have connected the Internet to the router via the WAN port. This can be a cable from your internet service provider, or from a modem. How to connect, I showed in the photo above.

The most important setting. We need to set the parameters so that the router can connect to the Internet. Otherwise, we will have a WI-FI network, but without access to the Internet.

Important! You need to know what type of Internet connection your ISP is using (Dynamic IP, Static IP, PPPoE, L2TP, PPTP). And the corresponding parameters, which depend on the specific type of connection: login, password, server address.

Also, it would be nice to clarify if there is a binding by MAC address.

If your provider uses the Dynamic IP (DHCP) connection type without binding by MAC address, then the Internet through the router should work without configuration, since the DHCP connection type is the default.

If the provider binds by MAC address, then you can clone it in the settings on the "MAC address cloning" tab. Or call your ISP and ask to register a new MAC address. And dictate the address of the router.

You can immediately go to the section with setting up a Wi-Fi network.

PPPoE setup on Tenda N301

We do this:

  1. In the settings, go to the "Configure WAN Connection" tab.
  2. In the dropdown menu "
  3. Specify the username and password that your Internet provider gives you.
  4. Addressable mode: Dynamic.
  5. Check if the "Connect automatically" item is checked.

Click Ok to save the settings.

If you set all the parameters correctly, then the router should connect to the Internet.

Configuring PPTP, or L2TP

  1. Open the "WAN Connection Settings" tab.
  2. We select the connection type "PPTP / Russia PPTP", or L2TP (depending on what type of connection your provider uses).
  3. We set the "Server address".
  4. We indicate the username and password.
  5. Ok to save the settings.

It is important to understand! If you previously launched a high-speed connection to connect to the Internet on your computer, now you do not need to do this. Now the router will do it. We have just configured this connection. The main thing is to do it right.

When the Internet through the router works, you can proceed to setting up the Wi-Fi network.

Setting up Wi-Fi on Tenda N301. Password setting

We only need to change the name of the Wi-Fi network, and set a password for Wi-Fi.

Go to "Wireless" - "Basic WIFI Settings" tab.

Enter the name of your Wi-Fi network in the "Wi-Fi network name (SSID)" field. You can leave the default network name. If necessary, you can also enable the guest network there. Click Ok to save the settings.

Next, on the left, go to the "Wireless Security" tab.

From the Version drop-down menu, select Mixed WPA / WPA2. In the "WIFI password" field, create and enter a password. The password must be at least 8 characters long. Click Ok to save the settings.

After rebooting the router, a W-Fi network with a new name will appear. To connect to it, you will need to specify the password that you have set. You can restart the router from the control panel.

This completes the Tenda N301 setup. But I advise you to re-enter the settings, and change the factory password admin, which is used to enter the settings of the router to some other.

Change password admin

This can be done on the "System Tools" - "Change Password" tab. Just enter the old password (factory admin) and the new password twice. Click ok.

Try not to forget the new password, otherwise you will not be able to enter the settings. And you will have to do a full reset of the Tenda N301 router settings. And you can reset with the WPS / RST button. You need to press it and hold it for about 10 seconds.

Perhaps you will still need instructions for updating the firmware on Tenda N301: https://help-wifi.com/tenda/obnovlenie-proshivki-routera-tenda-n301/

You can ask questions in the comments. Good luck!
