Tenda AC9 - review of a powerful and inexpensive Wi-Fi router for home

Before writing instructions for setting up a Tenda AC9 router, I decided to make a small review. A very interesting router. Powerful, beautiful, functional, and at a very good price. I can say with confidence that the performance of Tenda AC9 will be enough for almost any home task. Be it watching online videos in high quality, downloading files, playing online games, etc. Everything will work stably even at the same time on all your devices. It is unlikely that a more powerful router can be found for $ 60-65 (this is how much the Tenda AC9 costs).

This is, of course, a dual-band router with support for the IEEE 802.11ac standard. The maximum speed of a Wi-Fi network at 2.4 GHz is 300 Mb / s. And at a frequency of 5 GHz - up to 1167 Mb / s. For broadcasting the Wi-Fi signal, two external, non-removable antennas with a power of 3 dBi each are responsible.

Gigabit ports. 1 WAN, and 4 LAN ports. There is also 1 USB port for connecting flash drives, external hard drives and printers. You can organize a print server, or share files on a USB drive. It is a pity that there is no support for USB modems. If you have internet via USB modem, then this router will not work for you.

Support for different standards and functions is of course good. But for all this to work stably, you need a powerful processor. Tenda AC9 is powered by a Broadcom processor (BCM47189, or BCM53573) clocked at 900 MHz. Cope with a very decent load. At least, I didn't notice any problems during the moments of increased load. True, I do not use it for a long time, and I did not specifically load it. In the reviews, I also did not find information about such a problem. To "put" such a router, it is necessary to try hard. It is unlikely that you have so many devices.

As for the software part, the web interface itself (the settings page), everything is very simple and clear. In my case, the control panel is multilingual (English and Russian). I just read on the Internet that they say only English. Maybe this is so on previous versions of the firmware. I think the Ukrainian language will also appear, since Tenda is now actively developing in this direction. Anyone can configure the router. And without the help of specialists.

There is also a task scheduler. Generally a cool thing. It can be configured to automatically turn off the Wi-Fi network at a certain time. He also knows how to turn off the indicators on the front panel. For example, we set up turning off the indicators and the Wi-Fi network at 12 o'clock at night (when no one is using it), and in the morning all this will turn on automatically. Also, the Tenda AC9 router can reboot itself (self-service mode). At night, from 3 am to 5 pm, when there is no activity. This increases the stability of the work.

Tenda AC9 review

The delivery set is standard. Unless the set also includes a leg on which the router itself is installed. Everything is packed securely. The glossy panel on the router is covered with a protective film.

The router itself is made of matte black plastic. Only the panel where the indicators are located is made of glossy plastic. I like. Don't be ashamed to put your router in a prominent place.

There are many ventilation holes at the top, back and bottom. Thanks to this, the router practically does not heat up.

All ports and buttons are located on the rear panel. 1 WAN, 4 LAN, 1 USB 2.0, and power adapter jack. From the buttons: WPS, Wi-Fi (turning off and on the wireless network) and the Reset button recessed into the body. Also pay attention to the sticker with factory information: address to enter the settings, factory name of the Wi-Fi network, password.

Do not hang Tenda AC9 on the wall. There are no holes, and the ports will not allow either. The stand has rubber feet. This is a nice moment. The router stands firmly on the table.

Glossy part. It's better not to touch her. Fingerprints are left immediately.

I really liked the router. Both externally and at work. I also like their control panel. Everything is simple and straightforward. For ordinary users, not professionals, this is very important.
