Help. The house on the second floor has stable 3G Internet from Vodafone in one place 14 Mbps. On the first one you can barely catch it. I distribute around the house using my smartphone. Tell me which modem and Wi-Fi router to buy. To distribute normally, and not suffer with a smartphone. Thanks a lot!!!

Answer

Hello. If I understand correctly, the Vodafone SIM card is now installed in your phone and it catches 3G and the Internet is working on the second floor. But you want to use this SIM card (or another one from Vodafone) paired with a 3G modem and a Wi-Fi router to distribute internet throughout your home. Right?

I myself have not worked with Vodafone and have not tested all this, but I think it is possible to do it. First of all, I want to draw your attention to a Wi-Fi router, which already has a built-in 3G / 4G modem - TP-Link TL-MR6400. It is already on sale in Ukraine. I recently reviewed it, which you can read here, and wrote a setup guide. Just insert the Vodafone SIM card into the slot on the router and it distributes mobile Internet via Wi-Fi and cable. Also, this router can distribute regular cable Internet, if suddenly you have one.

Further, as for the usual USB modem for a Vodafone SIM card and a separate Wi-Fi router. Everything is more complicated here. You need to choose a modem that will be compatible with a specific Wi-Fi router. Since routers with support for USB modems do not work with all models of modems. I understand that there are modems from Vodafone: Vodafone K5160, Huawei K3772, K5150, K3805. I think you can use any 3G modem for a SIM card.

I have already told you how to choose a Wi-Fi router for a USB 3G / 4G modem.

If, for example, we consider ASUS routers with USB 3G / 4G modem support, then judging by the device compatibility list on the ASUS website from Vodafon modems, Huawei K5150 will do. It should work with ASUS router. True, support for the Czech Republic is declared there, but I don't think it matters. In the article, the link contains the address of the page where all modems and operators that work with ASUS routers are indicated.

Another example: TP-Link TL-WR842N V5 router. It supports many modems and can work with Vodafone (according to the information on the TP-Link website). The manufacturers and models of modems are indicated there.

As you can imagine, there are a lot of options. It is necessary to search and select devices (modem and router) so that they are compatible. Well, so that the modem works with a Vodafon SIM card. If your signal is not very good, then it would be good if the modem supports the antenna connection. Perhaps you will need it.

Be sure to check out the articles from the links I left above. We can discuss your question in the comments below.
