Hello Sergey! If you can help with this question. I want to use my smartphone (Meizu M8 Lite) as a router. My antediluvian Internet from Rostelecom, with a speed of 5 Mbit / s (maximum!) I just got it.

Can this be done? And do you need any special settings to establish communication with a PC. As a WiFi adapter, I chose the TP-LINK Archer T1U model (I haven't bought it yet). Your advice is very necessary. Thanks in advance.

Answer

Hello. Yes, almost any Android smartphone can be used as a Wi-Fi router. Including your Meizu M8 Lite. To connect other devices to the Internet via a Wi-Fi network. This is called the "Access Point". When a smartphone distributes mobile internet.

Your Meizu M8 Lite should also have the "Hotspot" mode in the settings. It is most likely called "Mobile Network Sharing". Located in the settings, in the "Modem and access point" section.

In the "WLAN hotspot" section, you can change the Wi-Fi network name, password, and hide the network if necessary.

I wrote about the setup in the article: how to distribute the Internet via Wi-Fi on an Android Meizu smartphone. You have a newer smartphone, the settings may be slightly different.

To connect your computer to the Wi-Fi network of your smartphone, you need a Wi-Fi adapter. But in your case, TP-LINK Archer T1U is not recommended! This is one of the few adapters that can only connect to Wi-Fi at 5 GHz. He simply will not see networks at 2.4 GHz. And the smartphone will distribute Wi-Fi at 2.4 GHz. Not all smartphones have the function of distributing Wi-Fi at 5 GHz. I can't personally check it, there is no such phone. But I looked at the information on the internet. Specifically on Meizu, starting with the Flyme 7 firmware, it became possible to choose the frequency at which the access point will work.

These settings are located in the "WLAN access point" section. You can check.

But I recommend choosing a different Wi-Fi adapter. Dual-band can be used, which supports connection to 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks. It will be more versatile.

I do not know how important it is for you to connect via Wi-Fi, but you can use your smartphone as a modem for a PC by connecting it via a USB cable. So you can do without buying a computer adapter.

Further, as for the speed and tariffs. As far as I understand, you now have ADSL Internet with a speed of up to 5 Mbps. I can't even imagine what operator you have on your phone, what kind of coverage (3G / 4G), speed, what tariff is connected, etc. I mean that through a mobile phone as a router, the speed can be even worse. It can be expensive. You need to connect a favorable tariff (preferably, of course, unlimited) to access the Internet from your operator on a smartphone. It is very important that the operator does not block the distribution of the Internet! Now many operators block the distribution of the Internet from the phone, or require a separate fee for this.

You can check the speed of the Internet connection on your smartphone using this instruction.
