Dell Inspirion 5748 laptop (P26E).

It has a Wi-FI module from Qualcom Atheros Communications Inc. 1705 802.11 b / g / n (2.4GHz) (Photo attached).

I want to change it to dual-band or 5 GHz. (I suppose to order on Aliexpress)

Please advise what parameters to observe when choosing a module? (name, numbers, letters, indices, etc.)

Help not to get into trouble.

Answer

Good afternoon. Vyacheslav, since I myself have never changed the Wi-Fi module specifically on the Dell Inspirion 5748 laptop, I cannot be 100% sure of the recommendations that I will give below. You should understand that the adapter you purchased may not work in your laptop for many different reasons. I have nothing to do with it 🙂

Your Dell Inspirion laptop now has a regular Qualcomm Atheros QCWB335 Wi-Fi module. It is connected to the Mini PCI-e port in the laptop. There are a lot of such Wi-Fi modules that physically fit instead of Qualcomm Atheros QCWB335. Including dual-band, with support for 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. That is, on the same Aliexpress you can find and order a lot of such modules. You can easily install them in your Dell Inspirion 5748, but whether they will be accepted by the laptop, whether it will work, is very difficult to answer. If Dell does not have any hardware whitelisting (when the laptop only works with certain modules), then everything will work.

Even the Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 3160 (3160HMW) Wi-Fi module, which I installed in my ASUS laptop and showed this process in the article How to replace a Wi-Fi module in a laptop, will work for your Dell Inspirion. But I don't know if it will work. I think that everything will work out, but as I wrote at the beginning of the article, I did not check it.

I bought my Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 3160 on Aliexpress. You can see other models as well. You can search for "Dual Band wifi Mini PCI-e", or "Dual Band wifi Mini PCI-e Dell".

Look by performance and visually.

If, in extreme cases, the module you purchased does not work in a Dell laptop, you can google about the BIOS firmware. Unless, of course, the problem is not in the wireless module itself. In touch in the comments.
