I was looking for an answer to my question for a long time, but everywhere there were some different advice. I found your site and I see that you explain everything very sensibly. I want to say right away that my question will probably seem very amateurish, so if you don't want to answer, everything is ok)).

I have been renovating my apartment for a long time, and at the moment the situation is with the Internet. 4 ends of Internet cables are brought into the dashboard, the second ends of which are in 4 sockets in different places of the apartment. Provider cable comes to the same shield. Now this provider's cable is connected to one of the cables leading to the apartment, The cable leads to the daughter's room and there is a router connected to the outlet and it distributes WIFI.

I still want to use all the sockets, since the cables are already connected there, but I'm thinking how to organize it. I'll just describe the options, and you tell me which option is optimal.

  1. The most optimal option is to put a router without wifi in the dashboard and, accordingly, connect a provider cable and 4 cables that lead to sockets to it. There are parallel questions, can I leave a router with WIFI in my daughter's room, will it conflict with what is in the dashboard? Can I put a router with WIFI in the dashboard (the old one remains) and connect all the cables to it? In this case, it will not conflict with the daughter's router in the room? Or is the most normal option to put one router in the dashboard and distribute the Internet from it both by cable and WIFI, and not to put any routers in the apartment anymore in the apartment? And according to your advice (read your article), place repeaters around the apartment. Which option is better?
  2. Taking into account the fact that I'm still thinking how to put 220 into the dashboard, there is an alternative option using PoE. That is, everything is the same as in the first option, but connect a PoE device to one of the sockets and plug it into a 220V outlet, and, accordingly, power will go to the shield via the Internet wire. How do you like the second option and how effective is it? So far, I only have an ASUS RT-AC1200 router. What to buy for the best option? Thank you in advance.

Immediately I want to understand the issue of power in the dashboard. PoE usually powers only access points, switches, webcams and other devices. I don't even know if there are routers that can be powered by PoE. And even if there is, then the power should come to the incoming port (WAN). From the provider, it turns out. Maybe I'm wrong. You need to google, look for information. But most likely it is, and power over PoE is not an option.

Well, here everything comes down to nutrition. Can you provide power to the dashboard. The option with another router in the dashboard is probably the only one. If the Wi-Fi network coverage was enough for the whole apartment from the router in the dashboard, it would be great. And so, I do not recommend contacting these repeaters (if you can do without them). It is unlikely that it will be possible to make a stable network and get a normal speed. Unless you install a Wi-Fi Mesh system. One module is in the dashboard, and the second is somewhere in the apartment.

There will be no problems with installing two routers. But in the dashboard, it is also desirable to put a normal, productive router. You can turn off the Wi-Fi network on it. By LAN, you can install another router in any of the rooms. Configure it exactly as a router (connect the cable to the WAN port). Or configure it as an access point according to this instruction (disable the DHCP server on it and connect the cable to the LAN). So that the addresses are distributed by the first router (which is in the dashboard).

If you will not plug anything into these sockets, then it is better to leave everything as it is. Moreover, you have a dual-band router. In the 5 GHz band and Wi-Fi, the speed is good.
