Today I will tell you how to perform a factory reset on Asus routers. In fact, a very useful thing. I think that the article will be useful to many. Basically, on an Asus router, the settings can be reset in the same way as on other routers. This can be done with a special button on the router case, or through the control panel, there is such a function.

What is a factory reset and why should I do it? Everything is very simple, each router has default settings with which it comes from the factory. After the purchase, we, of course, configure the router the way we need it: set the parameters for connecting to the provider, set the password for Wi-Fi, change the network name, etc. For example, we recently configured the Asus RT-N12 +. So, there are times when you need to clear these parameters so that the router is again with factory settings. For example, you have changed your provider, you want to sell a router, or during the setup process, something went wrong and you want to start over. To do this, so that the old settings do not interfere with us, we simply reset all the settings on our router and configure it again.

And also, in the instructions for setting up specific models of routers, I always advise you to reset the parameters to factory settings before setting up. This is necessary in order to clear the settings that someone may have already set. And because of them, problems can arise during the setup process.

This article will work for almost all Asus network devices (RT-N10, RT-N12, RT-N14U, rt-g32, etc.). The principle is the same. Except that the button and its location may differ.

Doing a factory reset on an Asus router

Important! This procedure will completely delete all settings on your router, you will need to configure everything again. You will be able to configure your router according to the instructions that may already be available for your model in this category.

As I wrote above, a special button on the router case is responsible for resetting the settings. It is signed Reset, or Restore... Asus is very fond of adding the WPS function to this button (activated by a short press).

So, in order to throw off the settings, we you need to press this Reset button for 10 seconds and hold it... Then we release, the router will reboot and the factory settings will be restored. The button looks like this (for example, Asus RT-N12 +):

On Asus RT-N18U, for example, the button is not signed.

And this is how it looks on the older Asus RT-N13U:

Here I think everything is clear. Press the button, hold it for 10 seconds, and the settings are restored.

Restoring factory settings via the control panel

Another easy way. We need to go into the settings of the router, I wrote about how to do this in the article: entering the settings on Asus routers (192.168.1.1).

In the settings go to the tab Administration - Settings management and press the button Reestablish... Push Ok to confirm, and wait until the process of restoring the parameters is over.

By the way, it is possible to save the settings, and then, if necessary, restore them from the file. I will write about this in a separate article.

Update: reset 30/30/30 on ASUS router

Many are unable to restore the factory settings of the router in the usual way. Therefore, try doing a 30/30/30 reset, which Alex shared in the comments. There are reviews that this method works. The scheme is as follows:

  1. We turn on the router, wait about a minute, and then hold down the Reset button for 30 seconds.
  2. Do not release the Reset button! Turn off the power of the router and keep the button pressed for another 30 seconds.
  3. We release the Reset button.
  4. We turn on the router, wait a minute and again press the Reset button for 30 seconds.

I hope you managed to reset the settings of your Asus router, if something does not work out - ask in the comments.
