Asus RT-N18U - an interesting model of a Wi-Fi router, in a beautiful case, and with support for 3G / 4G USB modems, printers, USB drives, etc. Also, the router attracts with its functionality, and the presence of two USB connectors, one of which is version 3.0. I bought myself an Asus RT-N18U exclusively to work with a 3G USB modem from an Intertelecom provider. Now we will take a closer look at this model, and I will share my impressions of this router.
This router is perfect for home use. For demanding, advanced users. It has several interesting features, such as ASUS AiCloud, Media Server (file sharing on a drive), AiDisk, Download Master, etc. Asus RT-N18U will provide Internet connection for a large number of devices without any problems. If you like to play online games, watch online videos, download torrents, etc., then this router is for you. I had no problems with him in this regard, it works stably. Holds the load well.
As for the Wi-Fi network coverage area, despite the use of the proprietary ASUS AiRadar function and 3 antennas, the signal is not much stronger than that of cheaper routers. I honestly expected more. But, for home, this router is quite enough. And do not forget that the radius of the Wi-Fi network depends not only on the router, but also on its location, channel load, wall thickness in the house and other interference.
Small review of Asus RT-N18U
Very good impressions were left from the router itself, its body, materials and build quality. When you take the RT-N18U in hand, the quality is immediately felt. It is larger and heavier than cheaper models, for example the same Asus RT-N12. Materials and build quality are excellent.
It looks very cool and stylish. Like most Asus routers, this model also somewhat resembles the body of a sports car.
On the back panel of the router you will find 4 LAN connectors, 1 WAN connector, 1 USB version 2.0, a WPS activation button, a reset button (by the way, it is not signed as RESSET), a power connector, a power off / on button, and fasteners for three antennas. There is nothing on the side panels, and in front there is another USB, but already version 3.0.
The LEDs on the top of the router are blue and not bright at all. If Asus RT-N18U is installed in the bedroom, they will not interfere.

- Very easy to set up. Especially through the quick setup wizard. The control panel of the router itself is understandable in Russian. However, the translation of the menu items is a bit interesting.
- Support for USB 3G modems. If you have access to the Internet via a 3G modem, and you need a powerful, functional router that will distribute the Internet to other devices, then the Asus RT-N18U will definitely suit you.
- Two USB ports, into which you can connect the same USB modems and distribute the Internet, you can connect a USB drive or hard drive, and organize file sharing for all devices. Computers, phones, TVs that will be connected to RT-N18U will have access to files that are on the connected drive. There is an ASUS AiCloud function with which you can organize access to files from the Internet.
- By connecting the printer to the Asus RT-N18U, you can send documents, or photos for printing from any device on the network.
- Download Master is perhaps not a very useful feature for many. But, if you do not have a very high-speed Internet (for example, 3G), then this function will come in handy. The router can itself download torrents, or regular files to a USB drive connected to it. And the most interesting thing is that he knows how to do it at a given time. For example, you can schedule multiple downloads for the night, and everything will be ready by the morning. The download wizard really works, I use it myself.
- If you have a fast Internet connection, then the TurboQAM function will definitely be a plus. Wi-Fi data transfer speed grows to 600 Mbps.

- Three antennas. Unfortunately, I did not find information on power anywhere. The antennas are removable, so you can connect others if necessary.

Basically, people in the comments complain about the not very large radius of the Wi-Fi network. I did not notice any other serious problems. All these comments don't say anything. Many, for example, write that the speed is very low over Wi-Fi. There is I will introduce that the router cuts the speed a lot. And they themselves connect and check the speed through the old adapter, which slows down everything. Everyone has their own devices, conditions and views on technology.
As for my opinion about the Asus RT-N18U, I am completely satisfied with this device. Beautiful, easy to configure, many different functions, it works stably. What else do you need from a Wi-Fi router. If you like this model, it suits the characteristics and price - buy it. And if you don't like it, return it back. Afraid of being unreliable and breaking? So there is a 3-year warranty, you will get tired of it faster, or it will become outdated. I did not find any significant disadvantages in this router. Only here is the USB connector on the rear panel, it could have been placed a little further from the power connector. The modem with the antenna does not fit.
