I continue to write detailed instructions for configuring routers, and today we will be setting up a Totolink N150RT router. I specifically purchased this router to test it, and of course write some useful instructions. This is the cheapest router model that Totolink has. Although the N150RT is cheap, I really liked it. Yes, this is a budget router with modest technical characteristics, but it is fully consistent with its price.

I liked this router both externally and in terms of the control panel and configuration. I looked on the Internet for reviews of Totolink N150RT, there are no special problems with the router. Basically everyone is happy. A very simple and intuitive control panel, there are many different settings, functions, operating modes, etc. Everything is thought out. I will probably make a separate review of this router.

If you've already purchased this router, you probably want to get it up and running as quickly as possible. I think these problems will not arise. Now we will consider everything in detail, and set everything up. Let's do the basic settings: set up an Internet connection, Wi-Fi network, set a password for a wireless network. We will also change the password for accessing the control panel.

If during the setup process something does not work out for you, and you want to start all over again, or forget the password for accessing the settings (after changing it), then you can always reset the router settings to the factory settings using this instruction: https: // help -wifi.com/totolink/kak-sbrosit-nastrojki-na-routere-totolink/. It is enough to press and hold the RST-WPS button for 10 seconds.

By the way, this manual is also suitable for the following models of Totolink routers: N150RH, N300RH, N300RT, and N151RT.

Preparing for configuration: connect Totolink N150RT and go to the control panel

We take the router out of the box, connect the power adapter to it, and turn it on (if the indicators do not light up, then turn on the power with the button on the router). Further, with the cable that was included in the kit, we connect the router to a computer or laptop. And in the WAN port of the router (it is yellow inside), we connect the cable from the Internet provider or modem. See the photo.

If you do not have a PC, or laptop, or you simply cannot connect to the router via cable, then you can connect via Wi-Fi. This means that you can go to the N150RT settings and configure it even from a phone or tablet. By default, the router broadcasts an unsecured network to which you need to connect (if you are connected via cable, then you do not need to connect via Wi-Fi).

From the device that is connected to the router, you need to go to the control panel. To do this, open any browser and go to 192.168.1.1. On the authorization page, you must specify a username and password. Factory: admin and admin (factory information is indicated on the router case, on the right).

If you can't go into the settings, then you can see detailed instructions: https://help-wifi.com/totolink/kak-zajti-v-nastrojki-routera-totolink-na-primere-modeli-totolink-n150rt/, or see See this article with solutions to the problem.

Immediately click on the "Advanced Setup" button to open the advanced settings.

And immediately we change the language to Russian, or Ukrainian.

Now the control panel is in an understandable language, you can configure the router.

Setting up an internet connection

This is the most important step in setting up your router. We need to set the parameters for connecting to your ISP. So that the router can connect to the Internet and distribute it via Wi-Fi and a network cable.

You need to know what type of connection your ISP is using. And based on the type of connection, the required parameters (username, password, server address). Also, the provider can bind by MAC address. All this information can be clarified with the provider's support, or viewed in the Internet connection agreement.

If you used to run some kind of Internet connection on your computer, now you don't need to do this. This connection needs to be configured on the router, and it will connect to the Internet.

If the Internet through the router started working immediately after connecting, then your provider most likely uses the "Dynamic IP (DHCP)" connection type, without binding by MAC address. In this case, you can immediately proceed to setting up the Wi-Fi network.

And if you have a connection type: Static IP, PPPoE, L2TP, or PPTP, then you need to configure it. The default is "Dynamic IP (DHCP)".

In the control panel, go to the "Basic settings" - "WAN (Internet) settings" tab.

In the field "Protocol of connection and authorization in the provider's network" select your type of Internet connection.

And already, depending on the selected type of connection, we set the parameters that the provider issues. Let's take a look at the setup using an example PPPoE connection. It is used by such popular providers as: Rostelecom, TTK, Dom.ru.

Configuring PPPoE Connection

  1. Select PPPoE from the dropdown menu.
  2. We set the login and password.
  3. We put the switch next to the item "PPPoE without Dual Link".
  4. We save the settings.

If everything was set correctly, then the router should connect to the Internet.

The L2TP connection is configured in the same way. Only there you still need to specify the server address. This type of connection is used by the Beeline provider.

The main goal is for the router to connect to the provider and start distributing the Internet.

Setting up a Wi-Fi network and password for Totolink N150RT

  • Go to the "Wi-Fi network" tab - "Wi-Fi network protection".
  • In the "SSID (Wi-Fi Network Name)" field, enter a name for your wireless network.
  • Select WPA2 from the Wi-Fi Network Security Algorithm drop-down menu. If you have any problems with connecting any device, then change it to "WPA-Mixed".
  • In the "Wi-Fi network security key" field, we come up with and set a password that will protect our network. Minimum 8 characters.
  • Click "Apply" to save the settings.

In this section, on the left, you can see the settings of two guest Wi-Fi networks, the WDS setting, and even the setting of the Wi-Fi network operation schedule.

We reboot the router to apply our settings. Or you can press "Back" and continue the configuration.

After rebooting, a Wi-Fi network will appear with the name that we have set. To connect to this network, you must use the set password.

Change the factory password for accessing the settings

Factory login and password: admin. This is not very secure, because everyone who connects to your router can enter the settings. Therefore, I advise you to change the factory password.

To do this, in the settings, open the "Maintenance" tab - "Login and password of the Wi-Fi router". Specify a new username (I left it admin), and specify a new password twice. Then click on the "Apply" button.

Try not to forget the password you are setting. You will not be able to enter the settings, and you will have to reset the router parameters to the factory settings.

Afterword

We have completed the configuration of the Totolink N150RT router. The control panel is very simple and straightforward. I hope you succeeded. If you have any questions, then ask them in the comments.

In the near future I plan to write some more useful articles on Totolink routers. I'll tell you about setting up WDS, repeater mode, Wi-Fi client mode and other functions.
