Connecting to a wifi network of a TV without a built-in wifi module

Hello! We have spread optical fiber around the house, and therefore now all devices in the apartment (stationary PC, laptop, smartphones and one of the TVs) are connected to the Internet via wifi. The problem is that there is another TV, but it does not have a built-in wi-fi, i.e. it can only be connected to the Internet via a wire. The question arose: is it possible to connect some kind of device via wifi (such as a router, access point, or something else exists), put it next to the telecom and connect this TV to the Internet with a short wire from this device? Or do you still need to look for a special wifi module for the TV, so as not to lay the cable throughout the apartment? (they were looking, it turned out to be very expensive and on order, but what if it won't work?) I would be grateful for the advice. Thanks.

Answer

Hello. I understood your question. Since you did not specify your TV model, I advise you first to find out if it has Smart TV support. If not, then there is no point in connecting it to the Internet. And you won't be able to go online. The LAN port there can only be used to output media content using DLNA technology.

If there is support for Smart TV, but there is no wifi module, then you can do without buying a proprietary receiver. And the prices for them are well, very high.

You can just buy an inexpensive router that has the ability to work as a repeater, bridge, or even a Wi-Fi receiver. The router will receive Internet from your Wi-Fi network via Wi-Fi and transmit it to the TV via cable.

I already wrote a separate article about this. It is just for you: a router as a Wi-Fi receiver (adapter). For computer, TV and other devices.
