Not infrequently, in the comments to various articles with solutions to any problems with connecting to the Internet in Windows 7, I advise you to reset your network settings. This procedure very often helps to solve a variety of problems with connecting and accessing the Internet on computers not only with Windows 7, or Windows Server 2008, but also with Windows 8 and Windows 10. However, in the top ten, you can reset all network settings a little easier, through parameters for this instruction.

I will show you how to reset TCP / IP and DNS settings using the command line and a special utility from Microsoft called Microsoft Easy Fix.

Why reset these network parameters at all? It often happens that viruses, malware, some activators, and even the users themselves change the network settings, after which the Internet stops working in Windows 7. There are some errors with IP, or DNS. The Internet works slowly, websites do not open, it is not possible to connect to a Wi-Fi router, establish a connection to an ISP, or distribute Wi-Fi from a computer. Whatever problem you have with your internet connection, chances are that resetting your network settings will fix it. This has already been proven more than once.

This procedure returns the settings of all network adapters to their factory defaults. Clears all parameters that have been set by programs or by users themselves. There is nothing to worry about, but there are two nuances:

  1. I do not advise doing a network reset on a computer that is installed at your work, or in some institution. It is better to contact the administrator. Since there most likely some TCP / IP protocol settings are manually set, which will be reset.
  2. After this procedure, you may need to reconfigure your computer to connect to the Internet. If your Internet is directly connected to your computer, and the provider requires connection setup.

What seems to be sorted out for what, you can proceed to setting up.

Resetting network settings in Windows 7 via command line

It's simple. First, we need to run Command Prompt as administrator. One way: open Start, in the search bar, type cmd... "Command Prompt" appears in the results. Right-click on it and select "Run as administrator".

Next, you need to run the following command:

netsh winsock reset

You can copy the command and paste it into the Windows 7 command line. Press Enter to execute.

After running this command, I advise you to restart your computer. Perhaps your problem will be resolved. If not, then run another command:

netsh int ip reset c: resetlog.txt

You can execute these commands in a row. After that, you must definitely restart your computer or laptop. The network settings will be reset to factory defaults.

Resetting the DNS cache in Windows 7

The commands I wrote about above also reset the DNS cache. But if you have an error only in DNS, for example, the DNS server is not responding, or You cannot find the DNS address of the server, then you can only reset the DNS with the following command:

ipconfig / flushdns

If this command does not solve the problem, then you can try to execute the two commands that I wrote about above.
