I don’t know why, but somehow I missed this point and did not talk about what the "airplane" mode is in Windows 10. What is it for, how to enable, disable it and how to solve problems associated with this function. As it usually happens, with the advent of the ability to turn on the "airplane" mode on a laptop or PC, users have a lot of questions and problems. Most often, it is not possible to disable this mode on a computer (where it is generally not needed). And if it turns off, then very often Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth stops working, or does not work as it should.

Why do you need Airplane mode on your computer?Everything is very simple. When this mode is enabled in the Windows 10 settings, all wireless modules are disabled. In laptops, this is usually Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Also a cellular network, for example, on a tablet. As you might guess from the name, it is mainly intended for use in flights. Well, on a laptop it may still be needed, but on a PC why? Unclear. If I want to turn off Wi-Fi, I just turn it off in the options, or by clicking on a separate button in the connection properties.

Personally, I had no problems with this mode. It is always disabled for me. But judging by the reviews on the Internet, not everyone has it. Now we will try to figure it out.

How do I turn off Airplane mode in Windows 10 (laptop and PC)?

The easiest way is to click on the Internet connection icon, or on the call center button, and click on the "Airplane mode" button. Press once, it turns on and the button turns blue. Press again - it turns off.

Or another option. Goes into "Options".

Go to the "Network and Internet" section.

Open the "Airplane mode" tab, and turn it off / on with the switch.

In most cases, everything turns on and off perfectly, and all radio modules continue to work normally. Even on a stationary computer. If Wi-Fi and / or Bluetooth adapter is installed.

Disable with a keyboard shortcut on a laptop

Almost every laptop has function keys to enable and disable wireless modules. So, in Windows 10 they work even without installing drivers and all kinds of utilities from the manufacturer. And with this keyboard shortcut you can control the "airplane" mode.

On an ASUS laptop, these are the FN + F2 keys. The function key should have an icon. Usually it is in the form of a wireless network. And on new laptop models, the icon is already in the form of an airplane.

There can also be a combination of keys Fn + F12, Fn + F9, etc. It all depends on the manufacturer of the laptop.

Solving problems with airplane mode

The most frequent questions on this topic: how to turn off the mode on the computer, if there is no item in the settings, and what to do if the "airplane" mode turns on itself.

In fact, it is difficult to answer these questions, since I myself have not encountered this. And I did not find any solutions on the Internet. Regarding "itself turns on", this is very unlikely, since there is no such function. Unless maybe some third-party program automatically manages these settings. If there is no item in the settings, and this mode is disabled, then it is quite possible that it simply should not be on your device. Most likely you have a stationary computer (without wireless adapters), and you don't need it there.

If the wireless network does not work, or is not stable after disabling the mode, then try several solutions. Also, the tips described below can help in the event that the switch (slider) is inactive, and you cannot turn off this mode.

  • The first step is to restart your laptop or PC. You need to click on the start menu, click on the "Shutdown" button and select "Restart."
Everything should work. And don't turn on the "airplane" mode anymore.
  • Prevent unplugging the wireless adapter to save power. It's not hard to do this on Windows 10. I wrote about it here.
  • In Device Manager, you can try to remove the Wi-Fi adapter. Just right click on it and select "Delete" from the menu. After restarting your computer, it should install automatically.
  • Check if WLAN autoconfiguration service is enabled. They wrote in the comments that it helped.
  • Update the Wi-Fi adapter driver according to the instructions: updating (installing) the driver on Wi-Fi in Windows 10.
  • You can also try to reset the network settings according to this instruction.

I would be grateful if you write in the comments about the solution that helped you. And describe your problem. I will add useful information to the article.
