ERR PROXY CONNECTION FAILED on Android phone. How to fix?

Users of Android phones and tablets often encounter the "err proxy connection failed" error that appears in the browser (standard, or Google Chrome) when trying to open a website. It is possible that the exact same error message can be seen in other browsers. Since the reason for this error is not in the browser, but in the Android system settings. To be more precise, in the proxy settings.

The error itself means that the phone cannot connect to the proxy server. I think I need to clarify what this means. When we connect the phone to the Internet via Wi-Fi, or via the mobile Internet (operator's cellular network), then usually the connection to the sites and servers of different programs goes directly. From your device, through the provider / operator, directly to the site server, or program. When for some reason proxies are configured on your Android phone, the connection is already going through the proxy server, which is registered in the settings. And if the settings are incorrect, or the proxy server does not work, then an error "No Internet connection" appears in the browser on the phone (despite the fact that there is a connection), with the description "There is a problem on the proxy server or the address is incorrect" and ERR_PROXY_CONNECTION_FAILED code.

To check, in the settings of the Wi-Fi network to which my phone is connected, I registered some kind of left proxy server. After that, the Internet on the phone stopped working and an error appeared when connecting to the proxy server. It is clear that hardly anyone will specifically manually set proxy settings and then look for a solution to this problem. But this happens, believe me.

It seems to me that individual programs can also change proxy settings in Android, after which the Internet stops working. Moreover, not only via Wi-Fi, because these parameters can also be set for connecting via mobile Internet.

In any case, if on your phone (Samsung, Xiaomi, Sony, LG - it doesn't matter) the error "There is a problem on the proxy server or the address is incorrect" appears on your phone, then you need to check the proxy settings and disable them. Most likely this is the problem.

How to fix "err proxy connection failed" error on Android?

First, I'll show you how to get rid of this error in the case when you have an Internet connection via Wi-Fi. As it often happens. The names of sections with settings and menu items may differ slightly. Depending on the phone and Android version.

You need to go to the settings, to the Wi-Fi section. Then click (or click and hold) on the Wi-Fi network to which you are connected. A menu will appear in which you need to open the properties of this network (Manage network settings).

In the properties, open additional parameters (if necessary) and check that the "Proxy" settings are set to "No" or "Disabled".

After that, we save the settings and check whether the sites open in a standard browser, Chrome, or whatever you use there. The ERR_PROXY_CONNECTION_FAILED error should be gone.

If an error with a proxy appears when connecting via mobile Internet

In the event that your phone is not connected to Wi-Fi and you use the mobile Internet (from your operator), then the proxy settings must be checked in the settings of the mobile hotspot. On a Samsung phone, this can be done in the "Connections" - "Mobile networks" - "Access points" section - by selecting the access point of your operator. There will be an item "Proxy" in which you need to select "Not installed".

But most often, of course, the proxy parameters are specified in the properties of the Wi-Fi network.

What else can you do?

If the solution I wrote about above did not help fix the "err proxy connection failed" error on your phone, then carefully check everything again and pay attention to the following points:

  • Disable, or better yet, uninstall the programs that allow you to set up and use a VPN connection on Android.
  • Check the list of installed programs on your phone. Are there any suspicious programs that can make changes to the connection properties, change network settings (including proxies), etc. For example, programs for blocking ads, protecting connections, blocking sites, etc.
  • Install the free Dr.Web anti-virus for Android on your phone and run a system scan.
  • Reset your network settings. This feature is in the settings, in the same section as the full reset of the phone. You can see more in the article: the phone does not connect to Wi-Fi. Internet does not work.
  • Connect your phone to a different Wi-Fi network, open a browser and see if the ERR_PROXY_CONNECTION_FAILED error appears.

If the article helped you, write about it in the comments. If it didn’t help - just write. You can describe your case in detail, and I will try to help you.
