Hello, I'll start with hardware. I have a DLINK DIR 320 Wi-Fi router and a DLINK DSL 2540U ADSL modem. The modem settings showed that the provider uses the WAN PPPoE connection type, then the question immediately arises whether it can be changed to an IPoE connection to quickly configure the router.

Speaking about the router, I must say that it has a non-standard OPENWRT firmware, which complicates the configuration of the router. The whole problem is that the router does not distribute wi-fi. Please tell me how to solve this problem.

Answer

Hello. You have a strange question, to be honest. I don't understand how the connection type can be changed. The provider uses PPPoE, so you need to choose this type of connection. Moreover, for IPoE you do not need to specify a username and password, and for PPPoE it is mandatory.

But here the question is different. Why set up a connection on a router. Did I understand correctly that your D-Link DIR 320 router is connected to a D-Link DSL 2540U modem for distributing Wi-Fi? That is, the network cable from the D-Link DSL 2540U LAN port is connected to the D-Link DIR 320 WAN port? In this case, the settings for connecting to the provider should be set only on the ADSL modem. And in the settings of the router, the connection type "Dynamic IP" (DHCP) must be set. You can do a factory reset on D-Link DIR 320. This type of connection is most often the default.

The router will automatically receive settings and, accordingly, the Internet from the modem and distribute it via Wi-Fi and LAN. All that remains is to configure the Wi-Fi network on the DIR 320.

True, perhaps I misunderstood something, and I am mistaken.
