Why do devices disconnect from Wi-Fi at 2.4 GHz during normal operation at 5 GHz (TP-Link WDR3600)?

On a TOSHIBA laptop (Windows 7), WI-FI began to disconnect after restarting, a troubleshooting proposal appears (the result asks to restart the router) ... restarting the router (10-20 seconds from the socket) helps 1 out of 10 ... Stopped restarting the router, became just reconnect to the wi-fi network ... and lo and behold, it connects 3-7 times, but after a while everything disappears ... reinstalled the driver on the laptop ... it didn't help. It dawned on me to give the Internet distribution from the phone ... the laptop is cut off the first time and works well. I decided to try to cut the phones to wi-fi, the result is deplorable. I reset the router to the factory settings ... set it up ... Wi-Fi at 5 GHz in the order of 2.4 GHz flies.

Answer

Hello. Gennady, I understand correctly, are all devices disconnected from the Wi-Fi network in the 2.4 GHz range, which is distributed by TP-Link WDR3600? You just wrote:

It's not entirely clear what's going on on the phones. How exactly does a Windows 7 laptop disconnect from Wi-Fi? Does he just disconnect from the Wi-Fi network, stop seeing it, or is there a connection, but the Internet does not work? If possible, attach screenshots in the comments below. Disconnect on laptop and phones at the same time? Are the devices finding many neighboring networks in the 2.4 GHz band?

It turns out that the reason is in the TP-Link TL-WDR3600 router itself, or in some kind of interference in the 2.4 GHz range. Perhaps the problem is even in the hardware of the router. In the module that is responsible for the operation of the network in the 2.4 GHz range.

Try the following:

  1. Update the firmware of your router if the TP-Link website for WDR3600 has a new version. True, there is the newest one from 2015-06-05.
  2. In the TL-WDR3600 settings, in the parameters of the Wi-Fi network at a frequency of 2.4 GHz, set the Channel Width to 20 MHz.
  3. Set the operating mode (Mode) - 11n only.
  4. You can also try to set some kind of static channel (Channel).
  5. Disable WMM for Wireless 2.4GHz.
  6. On the "Wireless Security" tab (for Wireless 2.4GHz), you need to check if the WPA / WPA2 protection type is set to Personal.

Wi-Fi settings for items 2, 3 and 4 (operating mode, channel width and channel) look like this:

Important: it is advisable to change these settings in turn. After each change, remember to save the parameters and reboot the router.

Try it. You can report the results and additional information on the problem (if necessary) in the comments.
