Why does the ping on a laptop jump when playing World of Tanks?

Hello, I have a laptop on Windows 10, I moved to another apartment, for the first 3 months everything worked well, then suddenly for a short time the ping began to jump to 300, while connecting via a cable through a router there are no such problems. The router reconfigured, finished off the provider, changed to a new one - the story repeated itself, went, bought Keenetic Viva, connected it to 5 GHz, the problem remained.

I called support on a laptop (while under warranty), reinstalled the drivers, it did not help, they said, bring it to the service. I don’t want to carry it, it’s lying there for 40 days, it’s unlikely that they will play tanks for 2 hours (this is to be guaranteed to catch lags). What do you advise?

Answer

Hello. There is little specific information on the problem.

  1. Ping jumps only when playing online games? Only in World of Tanks?
  2. Ping jumps appear after a long game? As soon as you launch the game, is the ping normal?
  3. If, for example, you play for a long time, close the game and immediately take measurements, is the ping normal? Or tall?
  4. Didn't you look at the motherboard temperature (at the moment when the ping jumps)?
  5. Have you checked with other Wi-Fi networks (in other places)?

Apparently, the reason is not the provider or router. Everything works fine on the cable, replacing the router and switching to the 5 GHz band did not solve the problem. The reason is in the laptop itself, or rather in the Wi-Fi module. I think that the Wi-Fi module heats up and the ping rises. Either the performance of the Wi-Fi module is not enough. There was a case recently where Wi-Fi problems started after the motherboard got very hot. So I asked if you looked at the temperature of the motherboard (bridges). All this is confirmed by the fact that problems with high ping appear after a certain time (if I understood correctly).

You can try to disable the built-in Wi-Fi module in your laptop and connect an external USB adapter. At least for verification. You can read the article Wi-Fi adapter for laptop. How to replace the built-in Wi-Fi module?

I don't know if it will help, but try disabling the Bluetooth module in the device manager.
