How to make a common network of 2 routers?

Good day.

There are two routers (the first D-Link DIR-615, the second TP-Link TL-WR840N), connected by a wire, the main Internet cable is included in D-Link, at first glance everything turned out to be simple, connected from LAN D-Link to WAN TP- Link and everything works, without any settings, and Wi-Fi, and through the wire. but sometimes both the first and second routers lose the network, they can be seen, but the Internet does not reach the devices over the "air", on the second (TP-Link) I tried to make both the "access point" and "Wi-Fi signal amplifier" modes, but after You can no longer go to these modes on the TP-Link router, the network is there, but it does not see it. Win 10.

The question is - how to make one strengthened network from two given routers connected by a wire?
You can not publish it, it doesn't matter to me, help me solve the problem.

Answer

Hello. Alexander, I'll probably start with the fact that you can't make one network out of ordinary Wi-Fi routers. Whatever one may say, it will be two access points. To make a truly one, seamless Wi-Fi network, you need a Wi-Fi Mesh system, or other equipment (router, repeater) with the support of these technologies.

Two routers can be combined into one common network. You can even try to set the same Wi-Fi network names (SSID) and passwords on both routers. And the network will be one (one network will be displayed on the devices, but in fact it will be two networks). And most likely it will not work the way you imagine it. There may be problems with reconnecting devices, speed, stability, etc.

D-Link DIR-615 is configured, distributes the Internet, we do not touch it. On TP-Link TL-WR840N, we reset the settings, go to the web interface and change the last digit of the LAN IP address.

Then we turn off the DHCP server.

Then we connect TP-Link TL-WR840N to D-Link DIR-615 with a LAN-LAN network cable. On TP-Link, the cable is also in one of the LAN ports.

To enter the TP-Link TL-WR840N settings after that, you will most likely need to go to the D-Link DIR-615 settings and see the IP address assigned to TP-Link in the list of connected clients. And use it to go to the web interface.

I wrote in more detail about this in the article How to make a router a Wi-Fi access point?

but sometimes both the first and the second router lose the network, they can be seen, but the Internet does not reach the devices over the "air"

This problem needs to be understood in more detail. More specific information is needed.
