Why did the Wi-Fi speed drop after replacing the router with TP-Link Archer C6?

Good afternoon. Problem. There was an old DIR-300 router. In the neighboring rooms, wi fi did not accept the Internet well on a computer or tablet. I decided to buy a modern router with good characteristics. Took TP-Link Archer C6. We connected, configured, the Internet appeared. The speed on the cable is excellent, about 100 Mb / s, as the provider gives, but on wi fi the speed has become terrible: either 10-12 Mb., Then generally 1-2 Mb. With the old router, the speed was higher in my opinion, though I did not measure it on the old one. Tell me, maybe in the settings something else needs to be changed and in what? Although everything seemed to be set up according to the instructions.

Answer

Good afternoon. Several questions that must be clarified:

  1. How do you check speed? On what devices (you need to check on different ones via Wi-Fi)? Measured near the router?
  2. What Wi-Fi settings did you change when setting up TP-Link Archer C6?
  3. By cable, the speed was measured from the router, or directly?
  4. What Wi-Fi network (in what range) are the devices on which you measured the speed connected?
  5. Are there a lot of nearby Wi-Fi networks?

It's almost impossible to get 100 Mbps in the 2.4 GHz band. Route will cut speed anyway. Even in the 5 GHz band. But 10 Mbps is a very low speed.

Try to apply the solutions from the article: how to increase the speed of the Internet over Wi-Fi through a router.

It may be that you have strong interference there, which is why the speed dropped so much after replacing the router. Perhaps the speed was the same before, through an old router, you just did not measure it.
