Hello. If you managed to update the router's firmware, then most likely there is no connection to the provider there. Moreover, if the Internet from Rostelecom through your D-Link DIR-615 (from another Internet provider) still works.
From your description, I still could not understand what exactly happens there when you try to put a password on the Wi-Fi network on the D-Link DIR-615 and why it cannot be done.
