TP-Link TL-MR150 is the simplest and most affordable solution when you need to organize an Internet connection through a mobile operator's network. When it is not possible to conduct cable Internet, and the only option is a 3G / 4G network, which today is already available both in small towns and villages. This router has a built-in 3G / 4G modem. Therefore, all we need is just to insert any SIM card into the router, connect our devices to the router via Wi-Fi or cable and we can use the Internet connection.

It is much simpler, cheaper and more convenient in comparison with the router + USB 3G / 4G modem scheme. There you still need to select these modems for a router, configure them, modems fall off all the time. With TP-Link TL-MR150, this would be much easier. You only need a SIM card and 3G / 4G coverage of the operator of your choice. Also TL-MR150 can work as a regular Wi-Fi router. That is, it has a WAN port to which you can connect the Internet via cable. Even if you have a cable Internet connection, you don't have to change your router. Also, the second connection can be used as a backup.

What you need to know about TP-Link TL-MR150?

  • Ability to connect to the network of a mobile operator at speeds up to 150 Mbps. Supports 3G / 4G LTE. Micro SIM card slot.
  • Wi-Fi antenna built into the body. Two detachable LTE antennas that enhance mobile network reception.
  • Simultaneous connection of up to 32 clients.
  • Distributes a Wi-Fi network in the 2.4 GHz (802.11n) range at speeds up to 300 Mbps.
  • 3 LAN ports and 1 LAN / WAN port. The ports operate at speeds up to 100 Mbps.
  • Due to the presence of a WAN port, it can work as a regular router (when the Internet is connected via cable).
  • Simple SIM card installation and automatic configuration. The connection to the mobile operator's network will be configured automatically. Insert a SIM card - the Internet is working.
  • Configuration and management via the web interface, or the Tether app.
  • There is parental control, speed limiting function for different devices, guest Wi-Fi network.
  • There is a separate button to disable the Wi-Fi network. It is very convenient.
  • A separate indicator on the TP-Link TL-MR150 case, which shows the signal strength of the mobile operator's network (in three divisions).

Completion and appearance

The packaging is normal. Same as other TP-Link routers. It contains information about the router. True, in my case, a router for the European region and all the information in English.

TP-Link TL-MR150 complete set: router, power adapter, two 4G LTE antennas, network cable, instructions and an adapter from Nano SIM to Micro SIM.

The main body of the TP-Link TL-MR150 is made of matte black plastic. And the top cover with the company logo and LED indicators is made of glossy plastic. Combined with a silver logo and blue LEDs, it looks really cool.

But the upper part, which is glossy, gets dirty and scratched very quickly.

All buttons and connectors are located on the rear panel. Two connectors for removable antennas, a POWER connector, a power on / off button, 3 LAN and one LAN / WAN port, a WPS / Reset button and a Wi-Fi On / Off button.

Well, the slot for the Micro SIM-card.

If you have a Nano SIM, you can connect it through the adapter that is included in the kit.

Below there is a sticker with the necessary factory information and holes for attaching the TP-Link TL-MR150 to the wall.

The TP-Link TL-MR150 web interface is available at tplinkmodem.net. This model has a new and modern web interface. It looks like this:

In the settings you can view and send SMS. You can also send USSD commands.

There is practically no need to configure a router. It starts distributing the Internet immediately after installing the SIM card. Only on condition that there is network coverage and there are no restrictions on the part of the operator. When you first enter the settings, the router asks you to change the administrator password. You can also change the name of the Wi-Fi network and password if you want. Or you can leave the factory ones, which are indicated on the TP-Link TL-MR150 case.

I can safely recommend this router to everyone who does not have the opportunity to conduct wired Internet, but has 3G / 4G LTE coverage of at least one operator. To access the Internet you only need TP-Link TL-MR150 and a SIM card. I don't see any reason to buy USB modems at all. Unless you only need to connect one computer to the Internet and you don't need Wi-Fi.
