After updating the firmware of ASUS RT-N11P router, an exclamation mark starts to glow (WAN IP is not an external IP address. External services will not work).

The Internet works fine (everything has been set up for a long time). What is the problem?

Answer

The other day I already heard about such a problem, wrote in the comments to the article on setting up Asus RT-N12. Perhaps this is some kind of massive problem after the update. By mistake "WAN IP is not an external IP address. External services will not work" there is nothing on the Internet. And there is no problem as such, because everything works. I think a factory reset might help, but should I do it when everything is Ok.

A yellow exclamation mark is blinking in the ASUS router control panel, and there is an error. And if you click on this icon, there are no recommendations? If you can, attach a screenshot of the error to the comment.

Update

As it turned out, the problem is massive. The error "WAN IP is not an external IP address" appeared among many users of ASUS routers. You will find a lot of useful information in the comments below.

I advise you just not to pay attention to this message.

This error appeared due to the fact that the Internet provider gives the router a "gray" IP address. That is, an address from your private network. These addresses are not routed on the Internet. The gray IP address cannot be used to access the router from the Internet. Therefore, a message appears there: "External services will not work."

If the provider issues a "white" IP address, then this message does not appear. But now almost all providers issue "gray" addresses. I can’t say that this is bad or that your ISP is cheating on you.

The only problem is that external services won't work. I will enter access from the Internet. To access the FTP server, remote access to the router settings, access to the IP camera, etc. However, setting the DDNS (dynamic DNS) function on the router does not solve the problem. DDNS over grayed out IP addresses does not work.
