We continue to deal with errors that can often be found in your browser window. And in this article we will find out what kind of "Error 404 Not Found", or simply "Page not found" and how to fix it.

I'll probably start with the fact that a 404 error can appear in almost any browser and on any device. Whether it's a computer, laptop, phone, tablet, or some other device. It doesn't matter if you have Windows 10, 8, 7, or XP in general. This is not a problem with your device or with your internet connection (in most cases).

The very error "Not Found", or "There is no such page" can be observed when visiting a variety of sites. On social networks, in search engines, and even on your favorite site, where you watch movies 🙂

Also, the error itself may look different. In this case, it all depends on how it is configured on the site. Not infrequently, this is a common, one might say standard error, which the server issues. It looks something like this:

Let's take a closer look at why such messages appear at all, and what can be done to open the desired site, or site page.

What is 404 error and why does it appear?

This error means that you are trying to navigate to an address that does not exist. The page at this address is not available. The page address has changed or it has been removed. For example, let's take one of the pages on this site. Let it behttps://help-wifi.com/poleznoe-i-interesnoe/chto-takoe-router-chem-wi-fi-router-otlichaetsya-ot-marshrutizatora... If you go to this address, the page we need will load. But, if we change the address, for example, add some number or letter at the end, then we will see the error "Page not found". Since a page with such an address simply does not exist on the site.

As you can see, my error page is more informative than the screenshot at the beginning of the article. You can go to the main page, find something through the site search, or look at other articles.

On the Vkontakte social network, for example, a 404 error page looks like this (Page Not Found):

As we have already found out, this error appears due to problems on the site itself. In most cases, the address of the page you need is simply changed, or the site administrator deletes it. There could be problems on the server side where the site is located. For example, the wrong operation of some security system, etc. It is hardly possible to go to a page with the Not Found error from a search engine. Since search engines "throw" such pages from the index. I myself often encounter this error when going to a page from bookmarks, or following a link on a website.

How to fix 404 "Page not found" error?

There are very few solutions. Since the problem is not on your side, but on the server (site) side. And most likely, you are unlikely to already be able to access this page. But there are still several solutions that can fix this error.

  • First of all, refresh your browser page. Press the F5 key, or on the corresponding button in the browser itself.
  • Check the address in the address bar. Maybe you accidentally added something there.
It is not uncommon for a 404 error to appear due to the fact that the author incorrectly specified the link address on the site. I have had this several times.
  • Copy the link from the address bar of your browser, and try to find it through the search engine Yandex, or Google.
Perhaps the search results will show the site we need and the necessary page.
  • Go back to the main page of the site, and try to find the necessary page through the menu on the site, or through the search.
  • Try to open this URL (address) in another browser, or from another device. If everything opens fine in another browser, you do not see the error "Page not found", then clear the cache of your browser. For example: how to do it in the Opera browser.
  • If the entire site is unavailable (even the main page) and a Not Found error appears in the browser (or another one with a 404 code), and everything opens from another device (through another Internet connection), then most likely your IP address is for some reason blocked on the server. You can change IP using VPN browser plugin. If you really need to go to this site.
  • Rarely, but there may be a DNS issue. In this case, you can try to register DNS from Google.
  • If you really need to access the page with information on which the error "No such page" appears (or something like that), then you can write to the site administration and explain the problem. They may suggest a new address for you.

If you know other ways that you can fix the 404 error, then share your solution in the comments below this article. You can describe your problem and ask a question.

To summarize: this error in most cases occurs due to problems on the site itself. We just need to measure ourselves and find the information we need on another site. This is not a big problem these days.
