I have already prepared several instructions for updating the firmware on D-Link routers. Recently I bought a DIR-300A model to prepare instructions for setting it up, and decided to write a detailed article on the D-Link DIR-300A firmware. Let's take a look at two ways you can update your router's firmware. Directly via the Internet in the control panel, or by downloading the latest firmware from the official website. I have tested both methods, everything works. Also, I managed to roll back the firmware on the DIR-300A router without any problems.

The D-Link DIR-300A router (in a cylinder-shaped case) has appeared on sale relatively recently. On my router, after the purchase, firmware 2.5.5 was installed. And there is already an update to 3.0.0 (at the time of writing the instructions). This is not just an updated version of the software, there is also a completely new control panel. More modern.

In any case, I recommend checking and updating the firmware of your DIR-300A. In new versions, as a rule, many different bugs are fixed, new functions are added, stability is improved, etc.

In my case, after updating the software in two ways, the settings of the router were not reset. I didn't have to set up anything again.

Remote software update D-Link DIR-300A

In this case, everything is very simple. We just need to go to the router settings, check for a new firmware version, and if there is an update, then run it. Then the router itself will download the necessary firmware and install it. The router must be configured and connected to the Internet. You may need instructions on how to configure the DIR-300A router.

We connect to the router and go to the settings at 192.168.0.1. You can see the instructions for entering the settings of the D-Link router.

In the control panel go to the "System" - "Software update" tab. If there is a new version of the firmware, then you will most likely see a message, and you will immediately be prompted to update the firmware. If not, you can click on the "Check for update" button. If there is an update, then click on "Update remotely" and wait for the router to download the firmware and install it.

We do not turn off or close anything. We are just waiting.

My D-Link DIR-300A itself updated to the new version without any problems. After completing the process and rebooting, the router worked as before.

DIR-300A firmware in the usual way

First, we need to find out the hardware version of our router. Well, let's see the firmware version that was installed at the factory. This information is indicated on a sticker that you will find on the router itself.

H / W Ver .: A1 is the hardware version. It will be useful to us now when we will download the firmware from the D-Link website. F / W Ver .: 2.5.5 is the software version that was installed at the factory.

We need to download the firmware. Go to http://ftp.dlink.ru/pub/Router/.

If you download the wrong firmware, then nothing bad will happen. Router will simply give an error that the file is incorrect. And you can download the new, correct one.

We find there our model with a hardware version: DIR-300A_A1 (I have a hardware version A1, you may have a different one). Then follow the link "Firmware /". Click on the firmware you want to download. The title will indicate the version. The first on the list is the newest. Save the file to your computer.

Now you can proceed to the software update. If you are connected to the router via Wi-Fi, then at the time of the firmware I advise you to connect via cable. In any case, go to the router settings at 192.168.0.1. If you do not know how to do this, then above in the article I gave a link to detailed instructions.

In the settings, go to the "System" - "Software Update" tab, click on the "Browse" button, select the firmware you downloaded and click on the "Update" button.

We are waiting for the update process to complete. The router will again ask for a username and password to enter the settings.

Rollback firmware to a previous version

Not infrequently, after a software update, some problems begin in the operation of the router. I checked if the firmware can be rolled back. Everything worked out. I rolled back from version 3.0.0 to version 2.5.5. I just downloaded the older firmware from the site and uploaded it to the router. By the way, this is how the control panel looks on version 3.0.0:

An older version of the software was installed without problems.
