I decided to update the firmware of the TP-Link TL-WR845N router, and at the same time write a short article about it. I think this material will be useful to all owners of this router. I decided not to add software update information to the TP-Link TL-WR845N setup instructions, so that the article would be simpler and not confusing. But the finished firmware instructions will definitely not be superfluous.
As I noticed, people mostly ask about the firmware in those cases when there are some problems in the operation of the router. In fact, you need to update the software for no reason. Indeed, in new versions of the software, new functions often appear, some errors are corrected, and the performance of the router improves. Therefore, I advise you to update the software immediately after purchasing the router. You need to at least check if there is a new firmware on the manufacturer's website. If not, then you won't have to update anything.
I will show you how to update the TP-Link TL-WR845N firmware by first downloading it from the official TP-Link website. These are not instructions for installing DD-WRT, or OpenWrt.
At the time of this writing, the official website only has one firmware for the hardware version V1, and one for the V3 version. And the second hardware version is not there at all. True, it also depends on the region where the router was delivered. I think updates will still appear for new hardware versions.
How to download the firmware file from TP-Link website?
Below I will provide a link to the download page for TP-Link TL-WR845N. But, since there may be different firmware for different regions, it is recommended to select your region on the page http://www.tp-linkru.com/choose-your-location.html, then specify in the search bar (top, right) " TL-WR845N ", select your model in the search results and go to the" Support "tab. Or immediately on the site open the "Support" - "Downloads" section and choose your model.
In my case, a router for the Ukrainian market. Therefore, the firmware can be downloaded from the link http://www.tp-link.ua/ru/download/TL-WR845N_V1.html.
How can I find out the hardware version of the router?
It can be viewed from the bottom of the router itself, on a sticker. At the same time, pay attention if there are any other letters near the model name. For example: TL-WR845N(EU) V3.
As you can see, my hardware version is V1.0 (first).
Follow the link and select your hardware version. It is important. The firmware must be downloaded specifically for your hardware version!
Below, on the "Firmware" tab, see which version is the newest, and download it to your computer. Look at the date and firmware version. The language, changes are also indicated there, and be sure to pay attention to the "NOTE". There may be some useful information.
Save the archive to your computer and extract the firmware from it. It is in .bin format, and has something like this name: "wr845nv1_en_3_16_9_up_boot (151229) .bin".
TP-Link TL-WR845N Firmware Update
At the time of the software update, the router must be connected to the computer via a network cable. And turn off Wi-Fi, if, for example, you have a laptop that is connected to the router via Wi-Fi.
Next, you need to go to the TL-WR845N control panel. To do this, in your browser you need to go to the address tplinkwifi.net, or 192.168.0.1. And provide a username and password. If you have not changed them, that is admin and admin. Here is a detailed instruction on how to enter the settings of TP-Link routers.
In the control panel, go to the "System Tools" - "Firmware Upgrade" section. Click on the "Select" button and select the downloaded firmware file (not the archive, but the file that we extracted). To start the firmware, you need to click on the "Upgrade" button.
The update process starts. You just have to wait.
Never turn off the power to the router. It could hurt him. It is better not to press anything at all, not to close it, and not to touch it. Just wait until it's over and the router reboots.
After rebooting, you can continue to use the router.
