You need to create a connection to the wireless network using a username and password. In the village, a pillar from Rostelecom broadcasts Wi-Fi with authorization. Help me choose the firmware for one of my routers so that I can connect not just as a client, but as a client with authorization. I have WL-520GC, WL-520gU, RT-N10U Ver.B1, DIR-300 Ver.B1 and can give TL-WR2543ND Ver.1.2 a try. Well, a few words about setting up the firmware.

Answer

Several times the site has raised this topic with Wi-Fi from Rostelecom in the countryside. With authorization over 802.1x. Everyone wants to connect the router to this Wi-Fi network so that it can authenticate using the 802.1x protocol using a username and password, and distribute the Internet to other devices. But as far as I understand, I looked on the Internet, no one has yet been able to connect their router to the Wi-Fi network from Rostelecom.

It is quite possible that this is not possible, and such a limitation is set at the provider level. I have no way to verify this. And it seems to me that the best solution is to ask a question in support of Rostelecom.

As for routers, they support 802.1x authorization. In fact, many routers have support for authorization using this protocol. For example, on the same ASUS RT-N10U, but I have to enter authorization via WAN, not wireless network in client mode. Which in this case does not suit us at all.

It seems to me that there are no routers that can authenticate to the network using 802.1x when connected to a provider (in our case, Rostelecom) via Wi-Fi. In client mode, repeater, WISP, etc.

Typically, WISP mode is used to connect to your ISP over a wireless network. For example, on the same Zyxel Keenetic, in this mode there is no authorization by username and password. WEP, WPA-PSK and WPA2-PSK only.

And I'm sure that none of the routers you listed can do this, even on DD-WRT, or OpenWrt firmware.

But on the other hand, I could be wrong. Perhaps someone has already been able to connect their router to the Wi-Fi network from Rostelecom. I would be grateful for any useful information on this topic. Since this question is of interest to many.
