Problem:

Hello! I often began to notice in the comments questions related to one problem that appears when connecting a TV to a computer or laptop. Mainly via HDMI cable. But it is not important.

The problem is that the image on the TV appears, the desktop of the computer or laptop is displayed, but there are no shortcuts. Just a clean desktop. Only the splash screen itself (about the desktop) is displayed. It looks something like this:

And if you drag the cursor to the right (beyond the edge of the monitor), it will appear on the TV. You can even drag a window there. But there are no shortcuts on the TV screen.

Decision:

It's not even a problem. This is one of the options for displaying images on a TV. It is called "Expand". When the TV, or the second monitor, becomes an extension of the main monitor. And there you can take out some windows and work with them. It is very convenient. We get an extra desktop. For example, display a movie on the TV, and open a browser on the monitor and surf the Internet. But this mode is not suitable for everyone. It is very easy to change it.

Press the keyboard shortcut Win (Windows icon) + P (English).

If you have Windows 10, then this menu will appear, where you can change the mode:

This menu looks slightly different in Windows 7. But everything is practically the same there.

I wrote more about this in the articles:

  • How to connect laptop to TV via HDMI

Write in the comments if this solution was useful to you.
