SIM card from Rostelecom and modem "for all operators": no Internet distribution via TL-WR842N Wi-Fi router and from a computer

Hello! The situation is even like a wolf howl, for a month and so and so I have been trying, all in vain. I will try to describe in as much detail as possible, starting from the very beginning.

I have a PC, I was sitting without touching anyone with a 3G modem from MTS, with an extortionate rate of 1000 rubles and 30 GB of Internet per month. And yes, I live practically in a village, and our only provider is Rostelecom, they cannot spend the Internet for 3-4 years, because the neighboring house had it earlier, and they do not have ports, as they say.

I learned about corporate SIM cards, delivered from MSC / St. Petersburg, and ordered myself such a Rostelecom, 250 rubles. month, 200 GB + 200 GB if necessary for every 100 rubles, after MTS - heaven and earth, and the speed has increased, although the stability has dropped dramatically.

I flashed the MTS modem under all the SIM cards, as I understand it at the hardware level, the program remained MTSovskaya, the network settings too (although 10 years ago there was an experience with the Beeline modem firmware, and there the launch program became completely different, the default one, so to speak), but LTE shows Rostelecom and everything works. I describe all this because it will come in handy in the future, and it seems to me that every little thing is important

Not so long ago I bought a large 55 diagonal TV in my house, of course with Wi-fi and PlayStation. Well, since Wi-fi is not supplied from a PC, unlike laptops, I bought myself such a device - TP-LINK TL-WN823N to distribute Wi-fi from it to the set-top box and TV. After a week of various manipulations, I could not connect them, the reason is "the hosted network could not be started." Although according to reviews and technically, this adapter not only accepts wifi but also distributes it.

After some time, I bought myself a router here, this TP-LINK TL-WR842N, with support for a 3g modem, and judging by the videos and articles, it recognizes everything and connects once or twice. Well, nothing happened to him. He recognizes the modem, but his program does not have Rostelecom, there is Tele2, MTS, Beeline, etc. The manual says that if your operator is not there, then ask him for the network data and enter the dial-up number and access point. Well, I found out, and I went through many options, in general, everything that is possible, according to different guides, but everything is in vain.

In the last conversation with the operator of Rostelecom, I also learned that I have a phone number for legal entities ^ _ ^. The modem is recognized, but does not connect to the Internet, and then I see the following problems:

  1. The sim card cannot inflate wifi, it is possible, the seller confirmed today that everything is fine.
  2. The settings in the modem are MTS, although the Internet works on the PC, I'm afraid to change them to Rostelecom, otherwise I'll never be left without the Internet.
  3. In the router itself, there is no Rostelecom in their program via tplinkwifi.net, and together with the second point, how it can and does affect, I don’t know honestly, but suddenly, the firmware is the last factory V5.
  4. Perhaps you need a modem of the exact manufacturer with its firmware as the SIM card.

When looking at the guides for this particular router, everything is different for everyone, or a slightly or completely different site. In general, I don’t know what to do, I would have called a master from a neighboring city, but I think that he would hardly do something. I am ready for any alternatives, up to the purchase of some kind of expensive smartphone that can inflate wifi to all devices at home (now I have a phone even without Internet access, a hemp, not an amateur, so I don't understand if this is possible at all).

Thank you for attention!

Hello. TV with Smart TV, PlayStation - you need high-speed, stable Internet. And this usually only happens by cable. If there is a line nearby (as I understand it, fiber optic), then you need to try to connect to it. Maybe all the same there are some options. How is it, no ports? I think this can be solved. If it is not possible to stretch the cable, then you can put a Wi-Fi access point, and you have another one in receiver mode. If you study everything, talk to support and insist on connecting, you can connect Rostelecom.

As for the Rostelecom SIM card and the MTS modem you have stitched for all SIM cards. I have not come across this, so it is difficult to advise something. I didn't understand this point:

the program remained MTSovskaya, network settings too

How is this possible? That is, you connect to the Internet from Rostelecom with settings for a SIM card from MTS? What does the support of Rostelecom say about this? Maybe there is an opportunity not to configure the connection via the application from the modem, manually create a connection through the settings in Windows, specifying the same dial-up number, login, password.

I think for the same reason the TP-LINK TL-WR842N router does not want to work with this modem. But on the other hand, if the router really sees the modem and you CORRECTLY set all the parameters for connecting to the Internet, then everything should work. The settings of this router on the hardware version of V5 are really different from the previous ones, but it doesn't matter.

If I'm not mistaken, Rostelecom's mobile network operates on the Tele2 operator's network. Maybe it makes sense to try to put the settings of this operator. In general, Rostelecom's support should provide all the necessary information. Including the equipment they recommend to use.

If their SIM carat works with any modem, then in my opinion, the most ideal solution in your case is to buy a stationary router with support for SIM cards. For example: TP-Link Archer MR400, TP-Link TL-MR6400. We inserted any SIM card and got 3G / 4G Internet via Wi-Fi and cable to all devices in the house. But I cannot guarantee that this SIM card will work in these routers. You need to check.

How can you make TP-LINK TL-WR842N friends with a modem and a SIM card from Rostelecom - I don't know. Is that the "hitting" method. Talk with Rostelecom support (call again, talk to another consultant). Can buy another modem, which is necessarily compatible with TL-WR842N, and which initially works with different SIM cards.

By mistake "the hosted network could not be started" when trying to distribute Wi-Fi from a computer: it has nothing to do with your Internet connection (modem, SIM card). You haven't gotten to these settings yet. In Windows 10, this error often appears due to the Mobile Hotspot function (by the way, try to distribute through it according to this instruction). If you have Windows 10, of course. There are several other reasons why this error can pop up. I wrote about them with the following article: Failed to start hosted network on Windows

I am in touch in the comments below.
