Wi-Fi issue on old Acer laptop after changing provider

Good afternoon. I got a problem with Wi-Fi on one of my laptops at home after changing providers. Before the change, there were no communication problems on all devices at home, including on the laptop in question. After changing the provider, problems began on this laptop - the connection to Wi-Fi periodically disappears, the sites may load for several minutes, or the download may be interrupted and there will be an inscription - it was not possible to access the site, the video also takes a long time to load. At the same time, the speed is good on other devices at home.

I tried to solve it on my own - I reset the network settings and dns settings on the laptop, deleted the point from the list of networks and reconnected, it did not help.

I also saw a version that on old laptops I may not support the 802.11n router mode, and you need to change it to 802.11b / g / n. I climbed into the settings of the router, but this mode is already there.

Just in case, let me remind you that there were no problems with WiFi on this laptop before changing the provider.

Acer Aspire 5542 laptop, Sercomm 6699 router.

Answer

Good afternoon. And after changing the provider, a new Sercomm 6699 router was installed? Or was it before?

Wi-Fi connection periodically disappears

How exactly does the Wi-Fi connection get lost? How does the connection status change in the Windows tray? Or do you mean that the Wi-Fi connection is lost and sites load badly / for a long time? They are just two completely different problems.

The Wi-Fi module on the Acer Aspire 5542 laptop is of course outdated. It does not support the 802.11n standard, only 802.11b / g. This can cause problems when connecting to Wi-Fi. Especially if the router works in mixed mode and devices supporting the n.

But if you did not change the router, only changed the provider, then the problem is probably in the DNS servers. Although on the other hand, everything works on other devices.

Try to register static DNS in the properties of the wireless connection on the laptop.

Check your laptop's internet connection speed.
