Xiaomi Redmi AirDots and Earbuds: the left / right earphone does not work, does not sync, does not connect, the case / earphone does not charge

In this article, we will try to solve three problems that the owners of the Xiaomi Mi True Wireless Earbuds basic and Xiaomi Redmi AirDots Bluetooth headphones most often encounter. As we already know, these are the same headphones. I have been using these headphones for several weeks now and have never had any problems with them. They connect perfectly to both the phone and laptop. But this is not always the case, and not for everyone.

The main problems that most often arise during the connection and operation of Xiaomi TWS headphones:

  1. When the headphones don't sync with each other. These TWS earbuds work as follows: there is a main earbud, on my Earbuds basic this is the right one. When we turn them on or take them out of the case, the left earphone is connected to the right one. They are synchronized. Then we connect the right earphone to the device and both earphones play. But it happens that there is an out of sync. As a result, the headphones are not connected. And one, right or left earphone of Redmi AirDots does not work. Or the left or right earphone simply does not connect. Most often left.
  2. When Xiaomi Redmi AirDots or Earbuds earbuds do not connect with phone, tablet, laptop, etc. Most often, the device simply does not see them. We open the list of available Bluetooth devices, but the headphones are not displayed there. However, they are not in the case and are included.
  3. When Xiaomi earbuds are not charging. The left or right earphone does not charge, or the case does not charge (it is also a charging case, from which the earbuds are charged in turn).

Why doesn't AirDots / Earbuds sync and one earbud doesn't work?

One of the most common problems with these headphones. Just at one moment the right or left earphone stops connecting and working. As I wrote above, most often the left earphone does not connect. This is because the right is in charge. It connects to the device, and the left to the right does not connect. Why it happens? I think there are mainly two reasons:

  1. The user himself connects the left earpiece to the phone. Directly. For example, in the case of my Xiaomi Mi True Wireless Earbuds basic, only the right earphone is available for connection on the phone. There is an index "_R" at the end of the name. But on the Internet I saw instructions for Redmi AirDots, where two headphones are displayed in the list of available for connection on the phone: "_R" and "_L". And if you connect to the left one, then in the future they will most likely not be synchronized and only one earphone will work.
  2. Well, there is no need to exclude some kind of software failure. Headphones are inexpensive, they are produced in a huge amount. Therefore, the quality may suffer a little.

This problem is solved by removing both "_R" and "_L" headphones (if both were connected) on the phone (or other device to which the headphones were connected), resetting the headphones and reconnecting.

1. Remove the earphone on devices

Just open the Bluetooth settings on the device to which you have already connected these headphones, find them in the list of paired devices (my devices), click on (i) or the gear button next to the headphones and select "Delete device" or "Forget this device".If the list contains two headphones with "_R" and "_L" at the end of the name - delete both!

On iPhone / iPad and on Android devices, this is done in approximately the same way. Likewise, you can remove the headphones on a laptop in Windows settings. Below I will give links to instructions, where it is shown in more detail how to do this.

2. Do a factory reset

Resetting on Xiaomi Redmi AirDots and Earbuds is a separate topic altogether. One way is written in the instructions in the kit, other solutions are shown in the instructions on the Internet, but in practice (with my headphones) something completely incomprehensible happens. When you try to reset the settings, they seem to just turn off and on. The behavior of the indicators on the headphones can be different, but the method itself is the same.

  1. We take out both headphones from the case.
  2. Simultaneously press the button on each of the headphones and hold it for 15-20 seconds.
It is advisable to press so that you can see the LEDs.
  3. We put the headphones back into the case.
  4. We take it out of the case and connect the right earpiece to the device. It will be named "Mi True Wireless EBs Basic_R" or "Redmi AirDots_R".

Another way:

  1. We take out the headphones from the case and turn them off by holding the button pressed on each earpiece for 5 seconds. The red indicator will turn on and off.
  2. We hold down the keys on both headphones for 30-50 seconds. When the reset occurs, a beep should sound from the AirDots (two times).
  3. We hide the headphones in the case, then we take them out, wait a few seconds and connect to the device.

How AirDots headphones sync: we take them out of the case or turn them on manually and the indicator on both headphones is actively flashing. After that, on the left earpiece, the indicator goes out, and on the right one continues to flash slowly. This means that the headphones are connected and ready to be connected.

If you still have any questions, or you solved this problem in another way, write about it in the comments.

AirDots headphones do not connect: the device does not see them

We took the headphones out of the case, but the device to which we want to connect them cannot be found. Headphones do not appear in the list of available devices. This problem usually occurs in two cases:

  1. The earbuds are already automatically connected to some device with which they were previously paired.
  2. They turned off / the battery is dead.

An important point: AirDots and Earbuds headphones are available for connection (devices can find them) when a white indicator on one of the headphones slowly flashes. Most often this is the right earpiece.

If you take the earbud out of the case, the indicators start blinking and immediately go out on both earbuds, which means the earbuds are connected to some device nearby. To which you have connected them before. To connect them to another device, you need to apply one of the following solutions:

  1. Turn off Bluetooth on the device to which the headphones are connected.
  2. Go to the Bluetooth settings on this device and turn off the headphones.
  3. Delete (forget) Airdots headphones on this device.
After that, they will not automatically connect to this device.

As soon as you unplug the earbuds from the device, one of the earbuds will flash a white light This means that they are searchable and you can connect them to another device. Links to instructions for connecting to mobile devices and computers are above in the article.

AirDots / Earbuds or case won't charge

When the case from the Xiaomi AirDots / Earbuds does not charge, or one / both earbuds do not charge, then the problem is usually hardware. That is, resetting the settings, reconnecting, etc. will not solve it. Let's try to figure it out.

Case charging problems

When the case is charging, the subtle red indicator on the front of the case flashes red. When it is fully charged, the indicator goes out. After disconnecting from charging, this indicator will light when the case is not fully charged.

If you connect the cable, but the case does not charge, then there are not many solutions. But try the following:

  • I think you have already checked the cable connection several times. Disconnected and reconnected it. If not, try it.
  • Try using a different cable and / or power adapter.
  • Look for debris in the connector on the case. You can take a toothpick and gently brush the hole.
  • If the headphones are already old, the battery may be out of order.
  • There is no need to exclude hardware damage to the case.
  • You can buy such a charger on Aliexpress.
It is not as convenient as a case, but it may be an option. True, if you buy two such charges (for each earphone), then new earbuds are not much more expensive.

The earphone does not charge

But it happens that the case is charging, but the headphones are not. If your left or right earbud (or both) does not charge, then try the following:

  • Check if the headphones fit well in the case. You can try to lightly press down on the liner.
  • Remove the earphone that is not charging from the case and take a close look at the contacts on the earphone itself and on the case. Maybe something got between them and there is no contact.
  • It happens that the contact sinks on the case itself. Examine them carefully.
Both contacts must be of the same height and they must be pressed (spring).
  • If you could not independently solve this problem with charging Xiaomi Redmi AirDots, you will have to take the earpiece to a service center.

Conclusions

As with other technology, there are also problems with headphones from Xiaomi. And if problems with connecting or syncing headphones can usually be solved by resetting and reconnecting, then charging problems most often have to be solved at a service center, or by buying new headphones.
