I typed the query "how to restart the router" in the search engine, looked at the results, and did not find a single detailed article in which everything would be written clearly and with pictures, as you like :). Therefore, I decided to write my own instructions on how to properly reboot routers from different manufacturers: D-Link, TP-Link, Asus, NETGEAR, Tenda, etc. Although, the reboot method on all routers is almost the same. Before proceeding to the instruction itself, I want to clarify something. In this article, it will be written specifically about rebooting the router, this procedure should not be confused with resetting the settings, these are different things.

Why and when do I need to reboot the router?

A router is a device that is designed to work continuously. This means that a reboot or power off on such devices is not necessary at all. That is why some manufacturers do not even install a power off button (for example, the Asus RT-N13U B1 does not have one). A reboot is only needed when changing settings, when the router itself will ask to reboot it.

But, in practice, not everything is as good as it should be. Especially with inexpensive models of network devices. They often freeze, the Internet disappears (without access to the Internet, when a yellow icon appears), devices do not want to connect, and a number of other problems. For example, on Tp-Link TL-WR741ND, the Internet very often simply disappears, and only reboot saves. I wrote about it in this article. My Asus RT-N13U B1 works with a USB modem, so the Internet can disappear several times a day. You just have to reboot it (what is the problem with such unstable work, until then I could not determine).

Reboot is the first thing I would advise to do in case of any problems in the operation of your router. Very often, this helps to solve many problems.

Reboot by button, or power off

Everything is simple here. Absolutely any router can be rebooted simply by disconnecting the power from it for 30 seconds, and then turning it back on. We just pull the power supply out of the outlet, wait a little and turn it on (you can turn it on right away, but it's better to wait a bit).

You can simply turn off the power with a dedicated button On / Off, if it is, of course, on the case of your router. Just turn it off, wait a bit and turn it back on.

As far as I know, a reboot can also be done with the Reset button, press it with something sharp and quickly release it (if you hold it, the settings will be reset). But I would not recommend this method to you. You will accidentally throw off the settings, then you will have to re-configure everything. There are plenty of safe and easy ways to do this.

Reboot via control panel

If you set up your router yourself, you probably noticed the "Reboot" or "Reboot" buttons in the control panel. They are needed there in order to perform a soft reset. We go into the settings, click on the button and our router will reboot. It is good to use this method when setting up the router (when you are already in the control panel), or when it is not possible to turn off the power, or press a button. Simply put, when there is no access to the router itself.

Important! When configuring the router, reboot only through the control panel. You do not need to do this by turning off the power. Since the settings may simply not be saved.

Whichever model you have, first, you will need to go to the settings. To do this, by connecting to the router via Wi-Fi, or by cable, you need to open any browser and type the address in the address line: 192.168.0.1, or 192.168.1.1... Go to this address and in the window that appears, specify the username and password to enter the settings.

If you have not changed them, then the standard ones are most likely admin and admin... In any case, the address for accessing the settings and login information are indicated on a sticker on the router itself.

Tp-Link

On the routers of this popular company, the reset button was somehow hidden in the side menu. To get to it, go to the left to the point System Tools - Reboot and click on the buttonReboot... This is for the Russian version of the firmware, if yours is in English, then the pointsSystem Tools - Reboot and buttonReboot.

By the way, I already wrote how you can translate the panel into Russian on a TP-Link router.

Reboot Asus routers

Everything is very simple here. It doesn't matter what kind of control panel you have, the "Restart" button is located on the main page. Just click on it, confirm and that's it.

D-Link

On D-Link routers, you will see a drop down menu System... By clicking on which you need to select Rebootor Save and reload.

NETGEAR

On NETGEAR routers, you need to go to the tab Advanced settings, on the left select Router status and press the button Reboot.

Afterword

In the future I will try to add a screenshot for NETGEAR and instructions for other manufacturers: ZyXEL, Cisco, Tenda. If anyone wants to share information, I will be grateful.

The main thing is to remember that any router can be rebooted by turning off the power.

There are at least two more ways that you can perform this procedure: via telnet, or using a special script. But, an ordinary user will definitely not use these methods. And for what, if everything can be done without unnecessary troubles. I will probably write about telnet and the script later, but this will be a separate article.

If something does not work out, write in the comments, I will try to answer quickly and help.
