In this article, we will figure out how to open ports on a D-Link router. In detail, using the D-Link DIR-615 as an example, we will consider the process of port forwarding for a program, game, or server. My D-Link DIR-615 has a new firmware installed, with a light control panel. This article is suitable for many D-Link routers: D-Link DIR 300, DIR 320, DIR 620, etc. If you have the same control panel as mine in the screenshots below, then you can safely follow this instruction.

Yes, now many programs open the ports they need to work. They do it using UPnP technology. But, nevertheless, there are cases when you need to manually open the desired port. You need to open ports for programs and some games that need access from the Internet. Let's say you have DC ++ installed, some kind of torrent, or a game like World of Warcraft. There is an incoming request from the Internet for this program, and it runs into a router. By opening a port on the D-Link router, we indicate to the router that a request for such and such a port needs to be sent to such and such a computer.

Opening ports on the D-Link DIR-615, DIR-300 and other models

Port forwarding is configured in the control panel of the router. Therefore, we need to go to the settings first. To do this, go to your browser at 192.168.0.1 (or 192.168.1.1). Provide your username and password. Standard - admin and admin... If you cannot enter the settings, then see the detailed instructions for D-Link devices.

In the settings, go to the tabFirewall/Virtual servers... And push the button Add to.

Well, then, fill in the required fields. I will first make a description of each field that we need to fill in, and then I attach a screenshot to make it clearer.

  • Please note in the dropdown list
  • In field Name, you can specify the name of the program or game for which you open the port on your D-Link.
  • Protocol - select the required protocol.
  • Fields
  • Internal port (initial) andInternal port (end)... Here we indicate the port, or again the range of ports to which traffic will go from the port that we indicated above.
  • Internal IP - here, from the list, select the computer to whose IP traffic will be redirected. The computer for which we are opening the port must be connected to the router in order to be able to select it from the list.

The rest of the fields, which I have not written about, usually do not need to be filled. When you fill in all the required fields, click on the button Apply.

You will see the created rule, which can be edited (by clicking on it), or deleted. You can create new rules for port forwarding in exactly the same way.

Next, you need to save the settings and restart the router. System - Save. System - Reboot.

And a few more important points.

If you did everything correctly (checked the settings), but the program you need, or the game still does not receive packets from the Internet, then it is possible that your firewall is blocking them. Standard, built into Windows, or third-party that you have installed (usually built into the antivirus). You need to create a rule and allow requests through the desired port. Or, for the duration of the check, disable it altogether.

When we opened the port, we indicated the IP address of the computer. On the list, you may have many devices. How do I find the right computer? Open the tab Status/DHCP... There will be indicated all devices that are connected at the moment, their IP and names. By name, you can already choose the computer you need. I wrote about it here.

How do I know the port, or range of ports to open?

I wrote about this above. This information should be viewed in the game or program settings. The port is clearly indicated there. Also, such information should be in the help for the program, and on the official website. As a last resort, you can google :)

It seems that I have not forgotten anything. If anything, ask in the comments.
