Windows Vista and Wi-Fi sharing via USB adapter

Hello!

Available:

  • Desktop PC with Windows Vista
  • Wired Internet
  • USB Wi-fi adapter.

Purpose: to distribute Wi-fi using a PC.

Problem: I go to the Network and Sharing Center - Manage network connections. The window displays my wired Internet Protocol (PPPoE) connection, my local network connection, and my wireless network connection (my Wi-fi adapter). The last one with a red cross at the bottom and the inscription "no connection". I click the right mouse button, a context menu appears with the items "Disconnect", "Connect / Disconnect". "Disable" simply puts the device in a disabled state and the red cross disappears. "Connect / Disconnect" opens the networks window, in which my wired connection (PPPoE) and the "Wireless Network Connections" group are hanging ... How do I configure my wireless network connection to which I can connect?

I tried to add "Create a profile manually", "A network within the range of this computer" through the "Manage wireless networks" menu, the network is created, but it is not displayed in "Wireless network connections". Perhaps I'm doing something wrong or setting it up incorrectly.

Tell me how to do it right?

Or maybe that's not the problem at all (straining the red cross at the bottom under "Wireless Network Connection")?

Thank you in advance for your response!

Answer

Update! There is no exact information, but it seems to me that there is no virtual Wi-Fi network support in Windows Vista. If this is not the case, please write in the comments.

Hello. All wrong.

The red cross next to "Wireless Network Connection" is normal. You are not connected to a Wi-Fi network. The main thing is that this adapter is turned on.

You can share Wi-Fi in Windows Vista in the same way as in Windows 7, or Windows 10. First, you need to execute several commands through the command line, and then enable sharing in the properties of your Internet connection (PPPoE) for the connection that appears there after running the commands. Most likely it will be called "Wireless Network Connection 2", or with a different number at the end.

I see no reason to describe here the whole process of distributing Wi-Fi on a computer with Windows Vista, since you can do it all according to one of the following instructions:

  • Using Windows 10 as an example - https://help-wifi.com/nastrojka-virtualnoj-wi-fi-seti/kak-razdat-wi-fi-s-noutbuka-na-windows-10/
  • For example, Windows 7 - https://help-wifi.com/nastrojka-virtualnoj-wi-fi-seti/kak-razdat-internet-po-wi-fi-s-noutbuka-na-windows-7-nastrojka-cherez -komandnuyu-stroku-2 /
  • Or according to the instructions: How to distribute the Internet via a Wi-Fi adapter on a Windows 10 PC

All of these instructions should work fine for Windows Vista.
