How to connect IP cameras via Ethernet via 3G Wi-Fi modem?

Hello, I need help.

There is a wifi modem from a mobile operator. And there are surveillance cameras that have a port for an Internet cable.

The question is - what device is there on the market, probably a router - repeater that can receive a wifi signal from a mobile modem and transmit the Internet via an Internet cable to cameras?

Maybe there is a much simpler chain, thanks in advance.

Answer

Hello. What kind of cameras, how many do you have? How will you watch them over the Internet? Maybe they can connect via Wi-Fi. This is very important information in this case.

It seems to me that you have two options (if there is no way to conduct a normal, cable Internet):

  1. Instead of your 3G / 4G modem, which now distributes Wi-Fi, buy a regular USB modem. Perhaps even the very same operator. And buy a regular Wi-Fi router for this modem that supports the connection of USB modems. But here you need to be careful that the equipment is compatible. You can read the article: Wi-Fi router for USB 3G / 4G modem. How to choose the right one? Almost all of these routers have 4 LAN ports to which you can connect your CCTV cameras. It seems to me that this scheme will also be more stable than a regular mobile Wi-Fi router.
  2. The second option is to install some other device that will receive the Internet from your modem via Wi-Fi, and transmit it to the cameras via a network cable. Repeaters in Wi-Fi adapter mode (when they take the Internet via Wi-Fi, and give it via cable). But they usually have 1 LAN port. It is necessary to install a repeater for each camera. Not a good idea. Moreover, it is costly.
The router is in repeater mode, or WDS (wireless bridge). This is already better, since the router will connect to your modem and will provide Internet to 4 cameras (usually they have 4 LAN ports). Many routers are getting smarter to work in these modes. I wrote about this in the article which router can receive and distribute a Wi-Fi signal (work as a repeater).
But through the same repeater, or router, the network can be very unstable. In addition, you also have wireless Internet, which does not stand out for stability.

I think I was able to answer your question.
