Internet via 3G modem and local network together in Windows 10

The point is this. I have Win10x64 on my computer. I use the Internet using the MTS 3G modem. When I connect my computer to a laptop via a local network, the Internet in the computer immediately stops working. If I disconnect the devices, then the Internet appears on the computer.

It seems that when the cable is connected, there is some kind of reconfiguration and Internet access begins only through the local network.

There were no such problems with Win7 and Win8.1. And the shared folder worked, and the laptop was connected to the Internet, and the computer itself had Internet access. The laptop is the same, with Win7. Help me please.

Answer

I understood your question. I do not know of any simple solution. Moreover, I have no personally verified solution to this problem. But there is one way you can try.

The fact is that the connection speed on the local network is 100 Mbit / s. And the speed through the 3G modem is correspondingly lower. Windows has the Automatic Metric Assignment enabled by default. As I understand it, all priority is given to the LAN connection. And Windows 10 tries to use the local network to access the Internet. And there is no Internet in it.

To make the connection via 3G USB modem work together with worship on the local network, you can try manually assigning an interface metric for each adapter.

I will show using the example of an Ethernet adapter (local network). But you need to do this procedure for both connections. Only for Ethernet we set the value 10, and for connection via a modem - 1.

Change network adapter interface metric in Windows 10

We do this:

  • Go to "Network Connections". Right-click the Ethernet adapter and select Properties.
  • Highlight "IP Version 4 (TCP / IPv4)" and click on the "Properties" button.
  • Click on the "Advanced" button.
  • Uncheck the box next to "Automatic metric assignment".
  • Specify the value in the field. For Ethernet - 10. For 3G connection - 1.
  • Click Ok.

Showed everything in detail in the screenshot (click to enlarge).

Let me remind you that we do everything in the same way for connecting via a 3G modem. Only there is a different value for the metric.

Update: Disable Windows Connection Manager service

In the comments there are already several messages that this problem can be solved by disabling the Windows Connection Manager service.

Important! After you disable the Windows Connection Manager service, the WLAN autoconfiguration service will stop working. The computer will not see the Wi-Fi network. Even if you don't need Wi-Fi right now, don't forget about it.

We do this:

  • Press the Win + R keyboard shortcut and enter the services.msc command. Click Ok.
  • In the Services window, find Windows Connection Manager.
  • Right-click on it and select Properties.
  • Set the startup type to "Disabled", click on the "Stop" button, then "Apply" and "Ok".
  • The Services window can be closed.

If after that you have any problems with the Internet connection, turn this service back on.

After these steps, both the local network and the connection to the Internet via a modem should work.
