How to connect TP-Link TL-WR841ND to another Wi-Fi router to increase network coverage and speed?

I have been using the TP-Link TL-WR841ND (RU) router for a long time and set it up myself, reading the instructions. I used to have a Beeline provider. I changed my provider to Rostelecom in Moscow. I got a free router that is connected to the Ezernet output.

Their router creates 2 networks: 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz. But it is standing in the back room wi-fi distributes poorly, or rather the laptop is old and does not see a fast network at all. Pulling the cable is not an option. The speed of wi-fi in the back room is 10-15 Kbps. I want to try to configure your router to receive the Internet via wi-fi and distribute it either via a short cable or via Wi-Fi. I don't know how to do this yet, confirm or refute the idea. So the Internet is distributing another router, I want to place TP-Link in the back room and connect it to the existing network via wi-fi, I ask for help in setting up, if possible.

Answer

TP-Link TL-WR841ND can be used to extend Wi-Fi coverage. There is no repeater mode in it, but there is an option to configure a WDS wireless bridge.

I will not write in detail here about setting up WDS, since we have a large detailed instruction on this topic on our website: setting up a Tp-Link router in bridge mode (WDS). After setup, you can connect devices to TP-Link both via Wi-Fi and cable.

You can try to customize, but I think that in your case it doesn't make much sense. Since through another router, the speed will drop by half. And TL-WR841ND will connect to your main router to a Wi-Fi network in the 2.4 GHz band.

Is the speed in the back room bad on all devices? Or just on a laptop? Is the speed exactly 10-15 Kbps? Maybe Mbps? If so, this is a decent speed. Is the signal bad in the 2.4 GHz band, or is it normal? At 5 GHz, the signal is usually even weaker.

Perhaps, in your case, it makes sense to buy a USB Wi-Fi receiver with support for the 5 GHz band for your laptop.
